Some more minor tire model improvements

Spent all day today re-tuning all the tires... again. The handling is a bit sharper and more realistic, and cars seem to align better (less veering, better tracking). Bolide's veering problem is gone. Will probably end up spending a lot more time on the tires tomorrow. We also found some drivetrain bugs which we hope to fix. Tire model is never finished...

Sounds awesome. Do we have an ETA yet for the public for the latest patch?

No ETA It's not up to me to push the updates out. I would hope we could push something out before the end of the month but I think it's unlikely.

better wait a Little bit longer to have a good update and not a crappy update made in 10 seconds . Keep on doing good stuff guys

I was going to say exactly that, however we hadn't received anything new since September. I even thought this project may have been not quite abandoned, but put on the back-burner. Regardless, I know the next update will be a quality one.

Will we be seeing any kind of video soon, showing what the update is at so far?

Could you go into a little detail about what was actually done?

Yeah, that would be cool. Not just this improvements but every tire related change that's coming in the Race update, I'm curious...

Agree, more in depth detail post would keep me busy
At least one a day, would be pretty sweet.

The gist of the latest tire changes is that I reduced tread stiffness, increased tread periphery stiffness, tweaked some weights for sportier wheels, increased damping for tread, periphery, and other tire beams, and probably a bunch of other minor tweaks. It was a good 8 solid hours of tuning and testing, if not more.

EDIT: Oh, another benefit of the stiffer periphery beams is that tires are much less likely to do that weird spiral inversion thing that sort of looks like a flat tire but isn't.

All good news then! Awesome after 5-10 of testing, I could notice that a little bit more dampening to the tire themselves (not the suspension) would make sense and feel more real (not a accurate testing but hey, it's something). Also, was grip change at all? Because I see people complaining it's too low but I'm not sure, seems quite right too me :s idk..

Then this is an update (this specific one, not the whole race update) to the cars themselves rather than any of the games "core"?

    (edit)

Also, I believe i read something a while back about the amount of rays on the wheel, and if i am not mistaken you said there weren't any major improvements in realism until 24 rays. If this is true, why arent all of the vehicles using 24 ray tire/wheels rather than the current 12? CPU usage concerns?

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you.. Thank you. IMO the biggest issue with the feel of driving has been the tire tuning or "physics". The traction feels so vague and unpredictable, even just accelerating which causes the horrible veering your talking about. Really cannot wait for this man, I don't play many video games anymore, well really this is the only "video game" I play these days, and you guys are killing me right now. The anticipation is too damn much, keep it up. Really wishing I paid more when I bought the game now, you guys really need to make a donation button or something..

Buy another copy and gift it to someone
(When you buy the second copy you can even offer more than the base price if you feel generous)

A cool dude here on the forums (not saying his name because he would get swarmed by requests) bought me a second copy so I could offer it to my brother because I didn't have the money at the time (can you believe this? I couldn't) and since then I bought another with 2x the base price to offer my cousin. It's the way I found to give extra money to the devs

From what I hear somewhere, I think the wheels ''explode'' (or ''implode'') at the slightest bump or something like that. I'm not sure, I can't really remember if that was exactly the problem but I remember Gabe saying it wasn't a performance issue (I think :s)
