We got multi-DAE support working, which means you don't have to edit the original vehicle mesh anymore to mod it! We have also moved all of the wheel and tire meshes to wheels.DAE in vehicles\common, so they are now global, and can be used by any vehicle, moved, and duplicated. These changes will be coming in the next update.

We are also working on static friction between vehicles/objects - you can now carry items like the oil barrel in the bed of the D15 without it sliding around We still need to fix the internal collision to stop it from getting stuck to the wall, but it no longer slides around all over the place.

Also, if you haven't been following in the forums, the Hirochi Sunburst is in-game and the .jbeam work is mostly finished.

    LET THE MODDING BEGIN

but seriously, the intervehicle friction is awesome, and the sunburst is looking mighty fine. This is what all those RoR modders have been looking for (plus the rest of us)

Question: Will this come in the Race Update or in a small patch in a week or sumthin?

I'm sure I will fully understand how awesome multi-DAE support is once I can see it.

It means modders can make visual(!) Add-on parts for vehicles that can exist without overwriting stock files or being a separate vehicle. (At least I think you can get away with not overwriting anything, not 100% sure about the .jbeam side of things) It also means wrapping textures should be less painful.

Gabe, will future official vehicles use this new feature or will they continue to be single .dae files?

Cant do any real jbeam mods however because of the slots system. :P

Correct me if im wrong, but does this mean that we could easily use any wheels/tires with any vehicle?

I don't see any reason to split them up; currently it's just the wheels and tires in wheels.DAE in vehicles\common, with the wheels then removed from all of the vehicles' .DAE files. When I get around to working on the Gavril Roamer, I'll move the D15's frame/engine/running gear meshes to vehicles\common so the Roamer can reuse all of it without redundancy. I'll probably have things like police equipment meshes in vehicles\common too.

Neat! So many long awaited features arriving. And, +1 to the fairly regular progress updates :P

But yeah, can't wait for the sunburst, and the friction is a nice thing to hear about ^^
