    UPDATED!

We now have 3 powertrains to toy with ;)

This time round I did some research...

    Experimental Electric Powertrain:
    • Simulated Brushed AC Motor
    • 350 Nm of torque (258 ft. lbs for us Imperials ;P )
    • Simulated 1 speed DirecDrive Transmission. Lots of gears made it out to be much like a CVT; lack of torque issue has been fixed
    • Realistic Acceleration and Revs; Revs max at about 5500 RPMS
    • 4x4 & A pretty good offroader! Torque Matters!

Experimental Tesla Model S Powertrain Convert!:
    • Simulated Tesla's AC Induction-Brushless motor setup
    • Revs max at about 15,000 RPMS
    • I inputed 600 Nm of torque (443 ft. lbs) at 0 RPMs.
    • 1 Speed, slightly modified transmission but closely resembles the Tesla's
    • Max Speed of nearly 160 MPH
    • 4x4

    D15 Electric: Crazy Edition:
    • My "fun" version ;)
    • 1200 Nm of torque (885 ft. lbs)
    • Max Speed of > 200 MPH
    • 16000 RPM rev limit
    • FAST!
    • 1 Speed
    • 4x4 (Much needed)

    Install: It's EASY! No Overwriting!

BUT! DO overwrite the previous version's files!

Paste ALL Contents of the zip into the pickup's folder
Experimental users: C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/beamng.drive/content/vehicles/pickup.zip -> vehicles/pickup/ PASTE IT ALL HERE!
Regular users: C:/Program Files (x86)/Beamng.drive/vehicles/pickup/ PASTE ALL OF IT HERE

In Game: Just go into the Parts Configs and pick a setup!

    Thanks for the love/hate!

Please don't grill me on physics things; I'm not a physicist

    Also #firstvehiclemod!

Bug report: We're fairly bug free. I noticed that literal one speed transmissions don't work too well so If I say that there are "one speed transmissions" I mean that there are two gears coded very close to each other, example: [4.73, 4.70]...You won't notice a gearshift with that at all.

I recommend using Real Automatic for this

    =========

    Update: 11/1

Forgot to put in the name.cs file which is necessary for the custom sounds!

Yes, name.cs is a file that needs to overwrite the older one.

If you've put custom sounds on your pickup, just add what I put in the name.cs

    ========

    Mini Update: 6/28/15

To get the sounds working, download the sounds hack zip, extract, and put it in:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\BeamNG.drive\lua\vehi cle\[replace sounds.lua]

    Thanks to Dummiesman!

    this is so neat man!

I have been wanting to make an electric covet for the longest but i could never get it to drive properly.

Well if this goes well, I'll do all the default cars (except the T-Series...yeah like an electric motor could pull that thing)

Actually, companies are testing electric big rigs. Walmart has an electric truck powered by a generator (like that McLaren P1 on top gear), and Scania has a totally electric truck. So it's definitely possible.

One thing I'd like to say about range, there are electric cars with 200+ mile range (the tesla model s for example)

Right, but this is an every-mans truck of the 80's...probably heavy lead acid batteries

Well, trains are much heavier and they are driven by electric motors. You'd just need one big powerplant

    Oh, heck yes!
The world needs more electric pickup trucks. Thanks for making this conversion!

The world needs electric automobiles, period. Well, ones that the working class can afford, such as the ev1.

On topic: I like this idea, it seems like a pretty neat mod :)

Only electric vehicle I would even consider owning is a tesla model s, otherwise give me a nice huge gas guzzling 500+ hp V8 (like in the shelby gt500)

    Re: Gavril D-15: Electric Edition

Electric motors do not maintain constant torque like this:

    [0, 0],
    [5, 550],
    [600, 550],
    [3500, 550],
    [5000, 550],
    [10000, 510],
    [12000, 450],
    [14000, 400],
    [16000, 300],

A brushed motor (most likely considering the vehicles age) generates peak torque at 0rpm which then (on paper) linearly decreases down to 0 torque at max RPM, this straight line torque curve then leads to peak horsepower occuring at 50% RPM. So assuming 500Nm peak torque and 10000 rpm:
    [0, 500],
    [10000, 0]

Homemade electric car conversions tend to use milk float motors. Therefore if we take the most documented one I can find we should have the following engine jbeam:
    [0,157],
    [5500, 0],
    yes, 5500 rpm.

The brushless motor within a Tesla Model S has the following BeamNG torque curve, yet would be significantly more advanced than one in a truck of this age:
    [0, 415],
    [7000, 415],
    [8000, 350],
    [9000, 290],
    [10000, 250],
    [12000, 200],
    [14000, 180],
    [16000, 50],

Tesla I believe actually use torque limiting at low RPM aswell (below 7000 anyway).

I did do electric versions of most of the games default vehicles at one point. Not so fun unless using a model S style torque curve (which I put in the covet) although pigeon milk float was rather hilarious.

But really, yours is kinda OP. Maybe 2 milk float motors in parallel will fit in the D15 bay, with a slight overvoltage and some active cooling, a 350Nm (maybe, just maybe 400) peak torque would be somewhat reasonable in that configuration. Based on the already linked conversion, that would likely give similar range figures to what you have (well, we can assume that there are a few more cells in yours with dual motor maybe).

No it doesn't, We hurt the environment even more by making the battery's and burning coal since most electric cars don't have solar panels.

On topic, Strange idea, Replace a gas guzzling V8 with a battery, My inner redneck makes me want to strangle you. This is a good mod though, Most strange ideas make good mods.

    Re: Gavril D-15: Electric Edition

@6677, good points! I'll adjust those sometime later today.

also agree with making batteries is worse for the environment

    - - - Updated - - -

Will also see if I can change the parts config to have no exhaust, rad....can't be rid of the fuel tanks, that's our rather light "battery"

    - - - Updated - - -

Yeah a problem I'd like to get fixed is this:

    It's operating as if it's a CVT...that's not what I want.

At full throttle, the revs shoot up to max; I'm getting 230 horsepower...but on a hill, the truck doesn't move, actually goes backward.

    - - - Updated - - -

    I'm thinking it's tranny based

    Re: Gavril D-15: Electric Edition

Start with sorting the motor out to confirm it isnt the problem. The issue may then be in transmission/clutch, I shall confess I havent downloaded the mod yet (I have my own electric D15 parts) so I don't know exactly what the problem will be in your case.

No exhaust and rad. You just need to get rid of the slot types for the exhaust on the engine part which is this line in "slots":
    ["pickup_exhaust_i6","pickup_exhaust_i6","Gavril D-Series I6 Exhaust"],
The radiator. Maybe its a water cooled motor :p Or you can remove it from the actual parts config.

The battery part depends on battery type, for example li-on battery dont hurt the environment near as much as the b atterys they use in say, the prius

    Nickel metal hydride.

Lithium mining still harms the environment of course, but not even nearly as much as nickel mining.

    Re: Gavril D-15: Electric Edition

Would changing the inertia or friction on the engine change something?

Probably not imo, tried the engine with the regular 4 speed auto and it worked as I would have liked it to
