I've been scanning through this forum and have seen some great ideas that should totally be implemented, such as better mud, car radios, and long haul driving.

If there was a campaign mode(non-mod cars could be a "Ranked" mode), giving you missions like racing, mud runs, deliveries and other challenges(<suggested), also having a balance of currency to maintain with gas, parts, repairs and new cars etc. The game would have more of a sense of accomplishment, and a goal. If all your work added up to a vehicle you could then bring into a virtual autocross(or hill climbs or mud runs) where you are timed, and allowed to use the car you so painstakingly EARNED. The game could remain single player in application but sanctioned autocrosses bringing a fast paced multiplayer mode into the mix. The host having the freedom to place cones or set up mud pits (or heck even just tracks implemented by the dev team). And I don't just mean leaderboards where you can restart 10000000 times until you get it right. There could be a time limit with all players times recorded on a web-browser or phone app once the event is over. Not that I don't love aimlessly rock climbing, Baja and FWD precisions between con-ex containers... But I like a game with a goal, and something to work up to.

In a nutshell I'd love to see time sensitive leaderboards so you have to finish track X in under Y time between ex. 1:00-2:00 Eastern Time and then post your time before results are in, furthering your campaign progression.

If someone already suggested this exact idea I Apologize, I scanned all the pages of the forum before posting.

Most of these have been stated by the devs as part of the long-run "end game" plan. The prospect of driving your own car, which you selected and purchased with your hard-earned money, modified with parts you selected and installed, and repaired by you where necessary is what Drive will eventually become, according to the devs. And I quite like the sound of that.

The idea of online, competitive leaderboards was to be the focus of the 'Race update,' which was announced as in development about two months after BeamNG's release (over a year ago). After a long period of major source code overhauls, Tdev announced the 'pre-race update' in late June to break up the wait, and the experimental build after that. Race timers are clearly in progress, but there's no way to tell when they'll arrive.

I really appreciate you bringing me up to speed as I don't have time to sort through a years worth of material, even though I probably should have. I do hope that we can get a big huge parking lot and hill climb and mud run( 5feet of mud before bedrock) tracks =) Maybe even a parking garage. (Oh and I would love an extreme low end torque I6)

I also remember a certain era of my video game history where I could get on Mt. Fujimi on Forza Motorsport and tweak and tweak for days on end racing the ghost of a leader until I beat him by the tiniest hair..... Looking back I feel that's cheating which is why I suggested the time sensitive "Autocross" style leaderboard.

You probably couldn't find anything about the game's long-term goals because the devs want this to be an all-across-the-board driving game. The leaderboard races are a certainty, but after that, the developers simply want this game to be anything or everything it can (just look at the aircraft mods).

My custom urban map has a parking complex, but I'll warn you that it's incomplete, seldom updated, and the garage is of unrealistically small proportions and unrealistic layout.

This part, I don't think the devs have discussed. They currently plan to build the leaderboards by car and race, and hash all game data to weed out cheating. But a time sensitive system might make sure the top spot is constantly refreshed, and any cheaters constantly ousted from the lead.

I do really like the idea of an event based leaderboard instead of a static one. It would be more like real racing. You have the "race" where you must complete it during the race to win. It's not like you can show up the day after an F1 race set the fastest time for however many laps and be called the winner. So in my mind this would be like today we have this event and if you want to post a time it must be between these hours and if not then you must wait until the next event. This way people can practice on the track for an up coming event but they can't publish a time to the leaderboard until it becomes open and even then you should have limited tries to post an official lap time.

The thing is though I have a feeling racing is only going to be a part of this game, likely a fairly large one but there is going to be a lot more to do in this one when it is finally finished.

We're all glad you can recall, however folks like me who have JUST started to hear about this game can also be as privileged as someone with over 500 posts in knowledge of upcoming features.

I did. Search Autocross, and Time Sensitive Leaderboards and see what you find, is this a thread to put people interested in this thread down?

This has already been mentioned. In a video they did to promote .drive it said something like in the future go from a junker to a racer and compete.
