As requested via Start-Releasing-Experimental-Builds-Again, we would like to provide you with the latest stuff. We have nothing to hide and we do not release the updates instantly because of game-breaking bugs or other huge problems that we are currently trying to tackle. The experimental branch did not work out so well in the past as users got used to its stability and treated it like the second stable branch that is more recent :| So, new approach: we'll not release it as steam branch but as 7Zip file, hopefully that will make it hard enough so that only the really dedicated people try to use it (the zip is splitted due to the forum size limitation though) So, the general warning: if you use any of these WIP snapshot files, it might crash, not work at all, corrupt your computer or do lots of other bad things. So be careful and do not even expect these to be stable at all. 0.3.8.1 - WIP snapshot 1 from the 16th of April 2015, 7:56am: {{REMOVED}} 0.3.8.1 - WIP snapshot 2 from the 17th of April 2015, 2:17am: {{REMOVED}} 0.3.8.1 - released on the 30th of April 2015, 4:18am CET If you do not know what these files are, then please: IGNORE THIS THREAD and wait for the official update.
Looks like someone's listening! Nice work tdev, looking forward to seeing what the bleeding edge of BeamNG has to offer. Also, complaining about the stability of the unstable builds should be made a bannable offence.
I concur with Zappy's idea. One warning and youre out. It sounds fair enought to me. Also, i probably wont be using the snapshot developments (my computer is screwed up enough as it is), but i do like the idea. Thanks for trying new things!
I like the idea. This concept is fully in the hands of the user and brilliantly defers any whining straight back to the user. Period. End of discussion. It also tames my willingness to jump on this and just see what others have to say about it. I personally have been pleased and pleasantly surprised by the forward thinking going on around here. My only question going forward is what are the intentions on keeping these updated at a reasonable pace?
Nice Regularly updated WIP builds would be the best of the two worlds I guess, frequent updates for those that want to stay on the bleeding edge, but no auto updates and therefore less backslash from inexperienced members. Thanks.
Psssst.... Didn't you read the OP? It's harder to use these by purpose to prevent all but the most dedicated from using it
I'm quite sure tdev would've uploaded the entire archive as one file, but I'd say vBulletin's filesize limits (or is it set by the admin? Been too long since I've seen the vb admin cp) is set at 256MB.
Just joking, it's just a bit ironic that the upload in the OP requires at least a tiny bit of technical knowledge on how to use it, and one of the first responses is "How to use this??"
In my defense, I haven't been in a situation where I was required to use a 7zip archive broken into pieces before Actually do have a bit of technical knowledge, believe it or not.
To install: Download all 5 7zip files into one folder install 7zip (if you don't already have it) Open part 1 drag the folder (BeamNG 8x) somewhere outside of the 7zip copy the contents of the (BeamNG 8x) folder into your BeamNG root (x:\steam library\steamapps\common\beamng) Enjoy! (feel free to correct me if any of this is incorrect)
At first, I was very surprised to see 1.08GB of picture material. But then I realised it's not that kind of a 'snapshot'. I have to admit, I really enjoy the messy state this game is in, and this makes it even better. Too bad I can't check it out today though...
