One thing that I always missed in the RoR worlds was the inclusion of realistic neighborhoods. For instance, instead of the rather boring condo-styled houses seen in Dry Rock Island, you can have detatched, generic, plastic-looky american houses instead! I don't know how much can be added without making the game run slower, but I think it would make an interesting addition to the island. I'm crafty at drawing out houses in programs like Google SketchUp, but I'm guessing that can't be used for this?
L3DT for terrains, Blender, 3DS Max, Autodesk etc. Basically anything for 3d modeling, free and expensive
You can use (s)ketchup for houses (After all, it was designed for architecture and town layouts, right?), but I'd recommend tossing them in Blender when you're done and giving them a quick polish before trying to get them in game. Sketchup doesn't exactly do the best of jobs making game-friendly models (duplicate/unneeded vertices, polies, and bad poly placement), plus Blender will let you do all sorts of fancy stuff with textures. (AO baking, for example.)
Thank you both, I don't have any experience with 3D software, but I'm gonna try out Blender, see if I can make things work
This is also something I need help figuring out, but first of all, I need help with Blender, I made a thread: http://www.beamng.com/threads/2804-...uired-(SketchUp-to-Blender-importing-to-game)
