    Hey guys,

While waiting for the next big race update (to release Alpine Route), I started a new custom level, Alpine Rush. This level is original (not ported) and was created with 3d Max and WM. It is a high speed road circuit in an alpine setting.

    Featuring:

    - terrain model created in max
    - custom grass/flower/tree models with lods
    - 3km of high speed adrenaline inducement
    - custom skybox (cubemap)
    - very good performance
    - original level design (not ported from some other game)
    - guardrails and bollards have full collision

Looks amazing, good to hear about high speed maps coming out.

I'm going to use 3ds max as well, but I only have basic to intermediate modeling skill, how did you generate the terrain within max? You didn't hand model it i hope ? One thing I want to do is make smooth roads with 3ds max and trying to figure out the best way, I'm thinking of creating spline / path and using Loft function.. what do you think

@ Singh336 - The terrain was created with World Machine 2 (heavily edited in PS for touch ups), then imported into Max via displacement map. The road, guardrails and signs (following the track) were created using splines, lofting and the spacing tool. It really speeds things up being able to do the entire level in max (this level took about a week to make), not to mention the benefits of having guardrails/ bollards with proper collision.

The vegetation is custom but was placed in the level via the Forest editor, it works (paints) on the model surface the exact same as terrain which is really handy.

Thanks for the info ! its good to know that the loft tool was handy for the roads, that seems to be the best way to make a smooth road in theory IMO.

So are you going to try and add some sort of lap timing to the race track on the map once the race update comes out? If so that would be awesome.

Crisp skyboxes, beautiful textures, smooth roads with interesting turns and deformable(?) guardrails...Pure Dirt 1 feeling. Only more beautiful and realistic.. I honestly can't wait.
