So... The other day i was watching some document of deers in wilderness. And a thought came to my mind. What about wildlife on some of the maps. Like deers and such that would not collide with the cars and would just run away and dissapear when they see a car. Would this work? I mean it would just add the feeling more that you are in woods.
This, a billion times. I think we've all had enough of "help pl0x i cnt find da down lode link", haha. I reckon it's worth the modelling, physical interaction and AI time to help mitigate The Twelve Year Old Effect. I should totally quantify that.
That feature will be very nice, but i don't think it is possible. BeamNG is a car simulator. Physics for animated animals are looking a lot more difficult to me than car's. If you see how much effort it is to implement realistic car physics and how much it asks form our PC's, i'm afraid realistic animal physics will not be doable.
We'll see animal physics with the new Zoo Tycoon announced on Xbox One. It should be possible to do that. Basically the same thing that is in GTA IV when a car smash a pedestrian. But they'll have to replace pedestrian with animals, animate this, define an AI and create a proper ragdoll model for each animal. Doesn't seem impossible, but very hard. It will be cool if someone make a script or a mod to do so after the release. Would love a BeamNG Carmageddon mod haha.
I would rather not. You guys don't seem to understand this is not a gta style game. It would take a lot of work in a node beam game to make ragdoll physics close to realistic. Time is money...
Except the engine they use for ragdolls in GTA(which is called the Euphoria physics engine, by NaturalMotion) costs a couple of thousands of dollars to license... Put that thought out of your head. It will never happen in BeamNG, unless one of the devs wins the lottery.
It all sounds so easy when you guys describe it. Too bad we have reality to crack down on our positivity. Seriously guys, be realistic.
I wasn't saying they have to use the Euphoria engine (which has an horrible LOD transition system), but kinda reproduce the ragdoll behaviour. It should have to be an extra-optional-additional feature to add when the devs will have completely finish the game. I know that wildlife it is not the point of their simulator. And also, this is not what we want. I just hope someone will tell that it will be possible to add this kind of feature with mods/lua. Maybe I'm dreaming haha.
You know I thought about bringing it up and making a thread about wildlife. But you didn't bring up something important that I noticed. If (I mean if) they were to put in wildlife, you gonna have to look at it both ways, one way is that many people "Might" not be able to play the game then, most of the people out there who wants to play games like this one are kids, you know 12 to 16 or so, and not many of them have high tech computers like most of us have, and having wildlife in the game might Really slow the game on their computer due to the graphics. Now unless they make a FPS version, then lots of them can play, it they have to so there could be no wildlife running around. Now if they were to add wildlife I think they should have "All" the animals set on timers. Meaning that each animal will repeat ins self after a certain in reached, example every 5 or 10 minutes the animals will reset automatically, lets say there's a bird flying in the sky and then rested on a tree, from the time that the bird took off from the tree to the time when the bird has landed again was around 10 minutes, then it just repeats its self over and over again. Same with all the other wildlife. I mean who's dumb enough to sit there any watch the birds fly back and forth and land then take off again? But the point is that all the players are going to be so busy enjoying the game that the birds wont cross their minds, they'll say "Oh, look it's a bird flying in the sky, wow! They put in so much cool details". Does anyone get point? So all in all, that's how I think they should do it, if they add wildlife.
Do you not get it or do you not want to get it?... Euphoria is *that* expensive for a reason: It's something that's REALLY hard to make yourself... A game studio buys a license for Euphoria, because reproducing that ragdoll behaviour would be more expensive than the license due to how much time it would cost. Even a simple rag doll system is REALLY hard to make if you do it properly... If the devs needed to design their own rag doll system, it would probably be more expensive in labor than buying a license for the simplest of ragdoll engines... If "reproducting the ragdoll behaviour" was cheap and easy, noone would buy licenses for these ragdoll physics engines, and every current gen game would have a state-of-the-art physics engine... Put this idea out of your head, I can guarantee it's never gonna happen. The closest you *might* *possibly* *probably not* get is a simple animated sprite-thingy resembling a bird flying through the air like in San Andreas, but even that's unlikely cause it would look stupid in a HQ game like this... Besides... Why does anyone even want this? Wildlife? In a car physics sim?... Might as well add FIFA to Gran Turismo... Or add Tetris to Pong... Which isn't all that relevant cause they would only use the character animation side of Euphoria, not the graphics part... That said, I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the LOD issues in GTA IV are caused by Euphoria, if that's what you're refering to... As far as I can read, the RAGE engine they use in GTA IV uses nothing related to graphics from Euphoria, only the character physics(the vehicle physics are done with the Bullet engine)... Like Hati said, be realistic. I know none of the dreamers here is gonna take my word for it, but... well... just take my word for it. EDIT@below: There's this crazy invention they call "Google"... If you type in words on there, it'll show you pages on the internet where that word is mentioned! I'm sure if you type in Euphoria, you can learn a lot about it! :O... *smfh*
Yea I agree, that this is a car sim, not a bird watching lol. But I have never heard of the Euphoria? Are they referring to like if the animal gets hit or something?
Euphoria in addition to traditional character animation and rag doll simulation has a kind of AI that gives characters more lifelike movements. They can e.g. try to balance if they are somehow disturbed. Like in GTA when you gently hit them with your car. They may do several steps to regain balance or just fall down if they fail. There are simulated natural transitions when they are getting up. Also in "accidents" conscious characters don't fly around like ragdolls but try to assume certain position.
Oh now I see what's happening here. Euphoria is just a engine for nature simulation. Okay, so if they decided to add animals they would most likely use Euphoria right?
Hmm, I have to admit that I wasn't realistic at all. You're totally right. I was thinking that ragdolls were easy to create but it's not true. I was thinking that because since HL2 & Flatout, they are ragdoll in almost all video games... And, of course, sorry for the confusion I made between Rage LOD sytsem and Euphoria. :/ Maybe in 2025 we'll see a incredible race simulator with totally random and rare event like an animal crossing the road or a tree falling onto a truck (idea sponsored by russians dashcams)... Maybe.
Well, a possibility would be to use actual NB to create ragdolls. Not sure how the 'movement' of the wildlife could work. The only way I can see it working properly would be to have an animated mesh or something at a distance and when your vehicle gets within(for example) 2 meters of it the animated mesh model is hidden and in its place the NB object is put. Still, very excessive for such a small feature. If we ever do see something like this, it'll be way down the line as I highly doubt this would be prioritized above, for example, implementing proper tire wear.
