So last night I was bored and I decided that I would break out my old Verizon Galaxy S5. I got to thinking since I don't use it any more and it sits in my drawer I would put it to use and root it and experiment with it. It's running 5.0, stock touch wiz ROM. Rooted with unlocked bootloader. (Takes about 10 or so mins to root and unlock the bootloader). I'm at the point where I don't know what ROM to pick lol. I wish there was a way to root my note5 running 6.0.1.. I'm missing out so much lol.
Yup, XDA forums is the place to get the best info. I have a rooted XTreamer and changed the rom plenty of times.
CyanogenMod would be my pick, as well. As a long-time Nexus user, I would also use any vanilla/AOSP-based ROM over any stock Samsung ROM in a heartbeat.
Well, Moddified Android Roms are something dependent on what people like. I actually like Touchwhiz. But nothing is like totally clean android
I tried a 7.1.1 based CM (14.1) ROM and that resulted in a boot loop. (Stuck at the first boot CM logo loading.) Does the phone itself need to be on a newer based firmware before flashing to a new os like 7.1? All instructions over on XDA and YT were going from 6.0.1 MM to CM 14.
You usually follow up the instructions as close as you can. or that might happen. You have to use odin and reflash Touchwhiz
Wahoo confirmed CM 14.1 working on G900V. Locked bootloader (ATT and Verizon S5) use safestrap for custom recovery when rooted. Since I unlocked the bootloader I flashed TWRP 2.87 via odin. Wiped cache, dalvik cache, system and data flashed Gapps and the last nightly 14.1 build for the G900V and boom it flashed no problem. Runs super smooth I may switch back and forth between this and my note5 now lol. Also I just tried flashing the newest lineage OS and it flashed no problem.
So I'm playing around with kernel auditor. What's better for battery life, a low frequency across all 4 cores or 2 active cores with a higher frequency? Snapdragon 801
