Old news, GM brought the tall deck ZZ572 crates out in 2003. And there are two versions available, there is one with 9:1 compression that makes 620 HP, and the 12:1 model with 720 HP. The reason they gave it such high displacement was so that it could still have that much power, and still be a reliable, smooth idling, daily driver-able engine that only needs pump gas. Also, GM is pretty conservative on the numbers they put on their crate engines. So take 620 and make it more like 700, and the 720 is more like 800. Sure you can make a sub 500 CI engine make way more than 1000 HP, but your not going to want to drive it to the store.
Wow, I could imagine being lucky getting 8 mpg highway on that! I could imagine it being used in a Ford F-600...
Remember my friend's MX-5 I told you guys I drove? For those who don't: Well I just got word he blew the engine up 100 miles from home on his way back to New York. It sucks, the 1.8L MX-5's are kinda hard to find in good condition state side. He's planning on getting another one, and a Nissan Maxima as a winter car. He kept complaining that the oil pressure gauge would randomly read 0 then come back to normal. Something tells me that's interlinked somehow.
Could be pieces of bearing material blocking oil ports and then being pushed around. I can't imagine it's hard to find a replacement motor from the importer for a few hundred bucks.
It's a Chevy engine, think more like C-60 or C-70. Funny you say that though, because the 572's are all tall deck's, the same as the 366's and 427's that were only in the medium duty trucks.
I was messing around in a field with someone and drifted into a small rut. Bye bye exhaust. Had to drive home straight piped and at some point lost the pipe I used for my resonator delete.
Yea, but for the bearings to disintegrate after 150,000 miles though? Then again, I don't know the history of the car before he bought it.
They could sure. every time you start the engine it runs dry for a few revs. they add up over time maybe. maybe the past owner didn't change oil enough or only did the filter once every 3 times and particulates could have done slow abrasive damage to them. oil pumps wear out too I lost a perfectly good hi compression b20 to a pump failure. the point is I wouldn't write off the car for a few hundred dollars worth of Jap engine.
