Here's why: It's ridiculously hard for the player that does not have the camera on them. When me & my dad were playing, I was in front of him, went around a corner, couldn't see, and crashed headlong into a tree.

Yes it does need splitscreen. Devs need to improve the gfx engine so it can render the two different screens at once.

I agree and was actually looking to send the devs the same idea. I think what it would require is a secondary camera that could be attached to a secondary vehicle in order for it to work.

I agree of course - nobody is going to disagree. We all want splitscreen.

The devs do realize that splitscreen is needed, it came up in their Reddit AMA:

Cant they make a half of the screen as the main part and the second one as a secondary camera that is based on the render of the first one, as in the distant vegetation, objects and shadows are rendered relative to the fist camera while the second one is just another perspective tied to a vechicle.

This would be great, at least for a placeholder, it was always gameplay>graphics so why don't the devs try it ?

If it was simple we'd already have it. The devs don't really hold anything back from us - when content is usable we generally get it right away.

Game development is actually complex, not simple. There are many, many factors to account for when trying to do something like what you described. "Why don't the devs try it?" implies that the devs could just write a few lines of code and 'enable' the functionality you are asking for - this is not the case. Let's try to avoid trivializing the complex task we are asking them to complete! If you'll look at the Reddit AMA I linked to above you'll see that the devs are aware of this need (as I mentioned!).

It's also important to remember that many BeamNG users have PCs which are barely fast enough to run one or two vehicles with a single viewport. Split-screen will not necessarily be usable on that sort of computer for performance reasons. Performance optimization is a big deal with this game.

I totally agree with you. Even people with gtx 950+ cards would have to lower graphics to get 60 fps. I have a gtx 960 4gb card and it can't get 50 fps on high. Then think about the people trying to play on these weak-ass computers with multi seat. They can't get 30 fps in the first place, then they'll get 10 fps now. The devs really need to make the renderer more efficient.
