    Hey guys,

After playing on maps from others, i want to start by myself and create what i enjoy driving on.
But, I have no clue how to start so first I have to find a good turtorial. I have alredy roamed around and I found some but they are quite outdated and BeamNG Drive always updates and the videos probably won't.

So please if you have a good turtorial or if you just want to help me personal, feel free to reply I would really appreciate it.

    Have a good day everyone!

Here is a base terrain. Set up for terrain painting, roads, etc.

First thing you should do is
-extract baseterrain.zip to Documents\BeamNG.drive\mods\ , so you have a work folder
-open levels\BeamNG_Base_Terrain_882669312\art\forest\managedItemData.cs, and replace "BeamNG_Base_Terrain_882669312" with your terrain name
-open levels\BeamNG\BeamNG_Base_Terrain_882669312\BeamNG_Base_Terrain_882669312.mis and replace "BeamNG_Base_Terrain_882669312" with
-rename any filename with BeamNG_Base_Terrain_882669312 in it , by replacing BeamNG_Base_Terrain_882669312 with your terrain name
-finally, rename the main folder itself to your terrain name
Once done, you should have a basic work area :)

    SAVING:
currently, files save outside your work area. To do finalization for uploads, etc : copy anything from Documents\levels\YOURLEVELFOLDER to Documents\mods\levels\YOURLEVELFOLDER

Ahh thanks alot I will be checking it out today. I really want to make maps like Bajarma witch was made by DrowsySam I think. So do you know how much time there probably would be in that map if you start from scratch? And what is than the most time consuming part in that kind of map?

Lots of time. Many aspects of map creation take a ton of time, I don't think that there is anything which seems to dominate the time required. For a beginner determined to make a good map, starting over on certain things might consume the most time [once you realize that you made important mistakes early on]. If you are a beginner and you aren't forced to re-do a lot of work, something odd is going on.
    • The wiki has lots of good information, but this is especially relevant: http://wiki.beamng.com/Terrains:Quickstart_guide
    • For my own part, my goals didn't completely align with those in the Terrains:Quickstart guide. I wanted to build challenging scenarios, so I came at the map from that perspective, despite the fact that I'd read the Quickstart guide and some other material. I think that my strategy yielded a poor map compared with following this guide more closely. For any future efforts I'll try to take more of that advice to heart.
    • I didn't realize this at first, but L3DT has a free "Standard" version which is perfectly good. It's much much better than the terrain generator included in the editor.

My experiences in learning maps and the time involved directly correlated to my ability to comprehend and understand
what people are trying to say on a technical level. This led to many failed maps and lots of frustration. I persevered
because I had a burning passion that I could not let go of, and subsequently did things that were out of my comfort
zone, ( mainly disconnecting my brain from it entirely and doing something else for awhile ), or conversely, opening the
program back up and forging ahead in a fit of total rage.

99% of my time spent on maps early on was correcting mistakes, a flawed and unreasonable workflow or
    a devious combination of both.
