Why my CPU is overheating when I play Beam NG drive?

Since a couple of days, my CPU began overheating when I was playing at Beam NG. But before, I was running the game with all graphics in high definition and that didn't cause me any problem. I don't know if the problem is my NVIDIA or Intel settings but that problem keeps me away to play at Beam NG for more than 10 minutes. My processor is an intel core i7 8th Gen (i7-8750H CPU 2.20GHz) 16 Go of RAM and my graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. My computer is an Asus ROG Strix (Window 10). The problem could be the game (Beam NG drive), my CPU or GPU settings. (You can answer in French or in English but French is my first language. Sorry for the grammar.) Depuis quelques jours, mon CPU a commencé à surchauffer quand je jouais à Beam NG. Mais avant, je courais le jeu avec tous les graphismes en haute définition et cela ne m’a pas causé de problème. How is your clearance with the laptop's fans? have you dusted them recently? overheating on a stock cpu on a laptop would pinpoint to insufficient cooling, probably airflow restriction. if it's overheating in beam, it is likely to overheat in other applications that stress the CPU just as much.

 

For the clearance with my laptop's fans, my laptop is on a solid surface so this is the normal clearance designed by Asus. I dusted them a few minute ago. After I dusted them I try it again on Beam NG drive and my CPU temperature rises until 60-70°C and my GPU rises until 60°C in like 5 minutes in game. (I don't know if that change something but I play with an Xbox One controller by bluetooth) A few days ago, I changed some parameters on my NVIDIA graphics card and I think that might be the problem. Otherwise it might be the Beam NG’s update because my problem began Friday (The update was Thursday). (Asus ROG Strix GL503)(Do you need more information?)

 

This sounds like a problem with the cooling, might be bad thermal paste or the screws on the heatsink has come loose. Loose screws has been a problem with the GL503`s before. Mabye you can try to run Cinebench`s CPU test?, this way you can determine if there is a problem with BeamNG or the HW.

 

The score of my CPU is 1023cb and the score of my OpenGL is 95.34 FPS. Is it good?

 

I will say, as someone who has an ASUS RoG that's a little older, that ASUS laptops characteristically run hot under load from the factory. With Monster Hunter World, I often peak at 92C. That being said, for mine, Beam typically settles at about 80-82C.
No damage can come of cleaning up fans and making sure all the cooling-related pieces are clean, computers like cleanliness. The giant exhaust fins in the back of these laptops catch dirt and junk super easily, so even a week-old laptop can get hair and stuff in there.
Thermal paste can also help things, since the factory stuff is kinda subpar imo.

Asus RoG laptops also throttle everything when temperature goes over about 98C, so there's plenty of built-in failsafes to prevent the computer from cooking itself.
I also have a laptop pad that I use every so often, and it works, but we're talking 4-5 degrees of difference at max.
But yeah, 80-90C for the RoG laptops is pretty par for course when they're running games that aren't solitaire.
Idle temperature sitting around 45-52 is pretty standard as well (assuming your room is ~70 degrees Fahrenheit)

Another thing about the RoGs is that they come from the factory absolutely chock-full of junk that you don't need that can bog everything down too. looking at you, dropbox...

 

Ok but before I didn't get any problem to play beam ng drive the problem began Thursday and why now I'd have a problem, I don't understand.

I think the problem is my settings but I don't know why

 

What are the temps like when you run the Cinebench CPU test?.

 

My computer has Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 and 8GB of ram but beamng runs just fine although I use a desktop

 

My CPU temps rise until 60-85°C (not normal) and you can see a bug with the GPU temps too but I don't know why. (image 2)

 

I mean, you have a laptop, so you should expect it to run quite warmer than a typical PC. In my opinion, it's not dusty fans or something like that, it could be aswell the ambient temperature in the room you're in, & since it's winter still, the temperature in your room might be higher than usual, so it also makes the laptop struggle

 

Try blowing out the fans with an air pump if you have one and you should have a temp drop but really thats a laptop and its gonna struggle with this game I wish you luck in a positive way

 

Ok but I touch to the NVIDIA setting and I think that could be the problem can someone help me with that or told me how to reset the default settings of my CPU and NVIDIA. (I change only the settings of the NVIDIA control panel and the Intel graphics settings)

Besides your GPU running -33k below absolute zero (which is almost certainly a driver issue), I really don't think the CPU temperature is abnormal under load.

That's where my BeamNG runs at while its in background mode. While running, it usually rests at 76-80.

 

If you think it is something to do with Nvidia control panel, there is that button restore, click it and you get it back to default settings.

It is recommend to play in a fridge if using laptop with BeamNG. Even I keep window open when playing with AI traffic despite playing with desktop, my CPU temp stays below 60C and all that, but this game is good for thermal stress testing of computers. Even normal room temp for me is only 18C so I don't need to keep fans running so loud, 300W of heat requires some airflow to cool in such small space.

 

Simple, your CPU is not overheating, modern CPUs can withstand 100C for a long time. Thermal throttling occurs at 90C~95C in most gaming laptop

 

Ok, but I already reset the NVIDIA control panel a lot of time and retry to run Beam NG with the High-performance option but it's like if it runs Beam NG a little bit more on my CPU graphic.

those temps are normal. no worries. laptop cpus are also designed to operate roughly 10c~ higher from throttling. for that specific chip, you are not hitting thermal throttling, far from tjmax

 

Ok, thanks and do you think that the problem could be the update? If it is can I restore the last update or it's better to wait for the next update of the game?

 

My friend, there is no problem. That's what we're telling you. Your laptop is operating as normal, under load, in a typical room-temperature environment.
If your computer really starts to overheat, it will let you know.
If it reaches above ~95C, then you have reason to worry. Normal laptops run hotter than desktop towers just by way of their design, gaming laptops even more so because you have more powerful machinery in the same confined space.
