I'm trying to make a race track map, and whilst editing the terrain with a click-drag, the tool seems to have a tendency to go off and apply a single edit to another section of terrain mid way through before returning and continuing. It leaves the map covered in all these little marks(see image) that are almost impossible to remove, as in doing so, you cause more to appear elsewhere. It does it with all of the terrain manipulation tools. Is this something that I'm doing wrong or an issue with torque3d? Also, I seem to remember getting it on my old PC as well.
I just go over it again with the smooth slope tool, and it blends it back in. But ya, it's still annoying.
It has to do with your CPU, at least that's what it is for me. If your trying to edit a large amount of terrain at a time it is likely maxing out your CPU and causing the game to lag, when that happens the editor tools can jerk around. Editing smaller areas at a time and not holding left click for a long time reduce the problem. your map looks interesting btw
I get the same issue, just out of interest what sort of cpu do you need to avoid this. I know an overclocked i5 2500k isn't exactly top of the line but its not exactly awful either
I have an I7 3770K @4.5G, On most map I can edit pretty large areas (bigger then then the spots in the OP's screenshots), some maps are more CPU intensive to begin with so that plays a role too. You can also try disabling physics while editing, that reduces CPU load a lot.
If it matters those spots are actually size 40(it's a big map) It might be to do with CPU, although I get it sometimes with smaller editing, and I didn't get it significantly more on my old PC(Intel Q8300) which was a lot slower. I think that it's something to do with the editor itself. I guess we just have to put up with it and correct the bits that pop up every now and then. Thankfully I think I've pretty much finished the terrain, but it would have been nice to know what causes it.
Yeah, its a total pain, the smooth tool works bit its not perfect. I always thought this was to do with the mouse acceleration issue. When modifying things looking up a hill the mouse may accelerate, when modifying while looking down a hill i didn't get this issue (i think, its been a while, so give it a try i guess). In simple terms: When looking up a hill MouseDpi ~ massive when looking down a hill MouseDpi ~ tiny. Im not sure how many people have this issue but it means i always have to edit height maps while looking down the slope i am editing, its a pain. Especially when your map is like mine which is called hills for a reason, its very vertical which meant i was constantly rotating the camera.
