So if there was a Mode made by the devs where you press F10 for something, And then a cursor comes up, and you just the strength of the rust and size . And you then Click and thne you can rust the cars out. ( or in half )

just a idea i really wanted since day one.

That would be impossible. Not only are you affecting the jbeams, but the mesh and the textures. Doing this would require a live texture which doesn’t exist, hence why there are no scratches when you scrape your car in the wall.the mesh would have to deform in a certain way which is also impossible. Plus the jbeam would have to be live too. Which cannot be done.

So that means we will never see scratches in Beam NG Drive?

No scratches, Beamng has a whole different engine than let's say, Rigs of Rods.

Hang on a moment here - It was my understanding that scratches and dirt/mud were so difficult because they had to be dynamically applied to the affected part of the car and only the affected part of the car. A slider controlling whole-body rust (at least as a cosmetic thing) just might be theoretically possible, so long as you don't mind the rust always being in the same place.

Of course, take that opinion with a chunk of salt big enough to pay a roman soldier with. I'm always surprised by what turns out to be possible or impossible deep in the game's code.

Scratches have been done before. Someone had the body panels work like glass so whenever impacted, it changed the textures to scratches.

I mean some real functionally scratches that get drawn on the point of impact. Like in the Rage Engine Games from R*
