Re: General discussion chat I thought I'd share this video from the Vet Ranch channel. Some of you might have come across The Demolition Ranch, a channel in which we have a texan playing with guns, plain and simply and can be rather entertaining. This man's day job is to be a veterinarian and recently he started the Vet Ranch channel. Including the video I shall link below he only has 4 videos so far, although he does explain why this is in the below video. I thought they were quite interesting videos to watch and think what he is trying to do (also explained in below video) is a great thing for him to be doing and so I am sharing it with you guys.
Re: General discussion chat Im back in school tomorrow and have quite a bit of work to do. Anyone know of some great ways to procrastinate further?
Re: General discussion chat Do the easiest work first and take a long time doing it so you really aren't doing much but you feel like you are actually accomplishing something.
Re: General discussion chat I mentioned a few times in other threads that in the UK if you have an automatic only driving license then your insurance will cost more. Well, as I am car hunting I am also having to check insurance quotes right now. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...,new/make/skoda/transmission/manual?logcode=p I am not actually getting that car, I am only "window" shopping right now, although if that dealer wasn't 26 miles away I would go and look at it tomorrow (I am busy the next few days and like I said, "window" shopping, if I was more serious or less busy I would go). Quote based on me having a full license and some details which I really quickly filled in and aren't 100% correct: £893, same details but altered for me to have an automatic only drivers license: £1012, both fully comprehensive cover. I haven't checked the price to move my existing policy to that vehicle, I suspect it would be less considering I just put a quote in for my current vehicle and had it come back as £980 whereas I pay £760. I also didnt bother including my existing no claims bonuses etc and can probably get away with saying that its totally going to be driven only 5000 miles a year instead of 10000 or something But there we go. In the UK, automatic only license = higher insurance premiums. I'll also say again, not actually getting that car. Octavia's are definitely on the list of cars to consider though.
Re: General discussion chat Looks like a pretty nice car, but those stupid tail light covers. Gah I can't stand those things. If I bought the car I'd order some stock ones as quick as I could. And in the U.S. we don't have licenses that specify what kind of car you have the ability to drive, but I know that insurance is already really expensive for teenage guys, and, if you have bad grades it can be even more expensive. :\ Ugh
Re: General discussion chat My dad says his insurance premiums will triple the moment I get a learners permit.
Re: General discussion chat not a fan of modded cars full stop, but it looks to be in fairly good condition and at a decent price. I do quite like the rims on that car though, stickers would certainly be straight off and replacement tail lights straight on the shopping list if I was to buy that car. I had a skoda felicia of the same year. Felicia and Octavia are pretty much the VW Golf (or maybe polo) to Jetta comparison wise. I was highly impressed by the Felicia, after all these years and almost 150000 miles it was in near perfect running condition. Ok, it had 20 advisories on its MOT, every single one of them being superficial rust from a garage which I know for fact just love to exaggerate the level of damage to a vehicle even going as far as to quote me £600 to sort out the fact that my bonnet release cable on the corsa had stretched making it impossible to open the bonnet with the normal release handle, they are a dirty garage, dirty as can be, besides, it was just surface rust, didn't effect vehicle in any way at all. Only reason I got rid of it, bloody switch in the ignition barrel wore out, the car simply could not detect you turning the key to start the engine so could only be started by manually shorting the starter relay (all other starter electronics were fine, motor was in perfect condition etc) or bump started, I couldn't track down replacement parts at the time and in a moment of extreme stupidity had the car scrapped. I really regret that choice, actually on my list of life regrets that currently stands in at number 2. Especially considering I found push to start conversion kits on ebay earlier which would have worked fine in that situation. Its apparently a known issue on both the felicia and the octavia from that era, if I get an octavia that old and run into that issue I am definitely spending time to fix it this time around, especially now that I have discovered push to start switches as a last resort repair option. The more I think about it, the more I like that car. But right now I can't commit to it. Maybe if its still there over the summer I'll look at it but I really doubt that
Re: General discussion chat Yes we do. I don't know the specifics, but class c is a normal car, and then you have b and a. (Maybe a+) and then CDL, bus and passenger licenses. For me (15 year old guy) driving a $40k mustang my insurance would be near $3k.
Re: General discussion chat Lol my father pays like 350$ for his insurance for a 33k$ car. He's never had an accident that sure counts Though I'm pretty sure insurances in the US are way more expensive for some reason.
Re: General discussion chat Dunno about individual insurances, but they seem to require more of them than we do I could spend all day bitching about how crap the NHS are in the UK, but then at the end of the day I can be relatively certain that if I have a major accident tomorrow and require emergency medical attention then an ambulance will come fetch me, take me to a hospital which will then patch me up without me having to reach for my wallet or worry about whether I have health insurance. Actually, I couldn't spend long bitching about the NHS, no it isn't the best healthcare money can buy, but its not like you're paying for it directly.
Re: General discussion chat Well yeah I know we have cdls and other specifications, I was just saying we don't have auto or manual licenses. And yeah. Insurance is through the roof over here. My dream of owning an excursion will have to wait.
Re: General discussion chat If I got a 1995 Mazda Miata MX-5 for a car, and I would still be a teenage driver, would it be either pretty cheap or super expensive to insure? My mom says it would be horribly expensive because it's a sports car, and I hear from a lot of other people that it would be cheap. I hope it's cheap, cause it actually seems like a cool car for me now.
Re: General discussion chat Pretty sure the price of the insurance is based on stuff like the engine displacement, doors, hp, and stuff alike. A big piece of how it's determined is other claims on the car. If there are a lot of claims that happen on that car, insurance will be expensive, not many=cheap insurance. Like a pickup truck would definitely be cheaper than a sports car.
Re: General discussion chat I am just assuming that what Mr. Regular said with the RX-8, so basically what you said in the first sentence, was correct. Would my dad's Honda Ridgeline be cheaper? Would there be a small margin between the two prices?
Re: General discussion chat I'm sure insurance for the ridgeline would be much cheaper. Lots cheaper. And it's more practical. I wouldn't ever want to own just a miata.
Re: General discussion chat Several factors. Age of car Engine power Number of doors Dimensions of the car (a car being 5cm longer than another can increase the insurance premiums) Wheel size Wheelbase Tyre profiles Mass Desirability of the car Existing ownership demographics for the car Age of driver Gender of driver (this has only just recently changed in the UK, men were paying upto double what women were paying simply because they were men, now women pay the same as men) Existing no claims bonuses What other vehicle licenses you have (I saved £250 from my first car insurance contract simply because I had a CBT certificate allowing me to ride a moped) Driver medical conditions, both physical and mental Sometimes whether the car is manual or auto and as above whether you have an auto only license or not Any modifications to the car About demographics, the citroen saxo in britain is stereotypically driven by boy racers (or you may know them as ricers), accident rates among this demographic are higher, insurers actually inflate the insurance cost of the citroen saxo accordingly. Same goes for many other similar vehicles. Fiat Siecento insurance costs also went up after a surge in sales following the inbetweeners airing. An MX5 probably won't be cheap to insure at all for a first time driver Britain the norm is to drive a manual not an auto. We have the various categorisations of vehicle splitting up things like motorbikes, cars, buses and lorries etc all requiring seperate licensing (although it does all go on 1 single card thankfully). But for car, normally you have to pass your test in a manual and thats it, you get a full drivers license (we're excluding other vehicle types here). If you repeatedly fail your test in a manual or have a medical condition preventing you from operating a manual or you are simply an idiot who couldnt be bothered to learn to drive a manual (I know 1 person that decided it looked hard and jumped straight to auto without even attempting to learn manual) then you can take your test in an automatic. If you pass in an automatic then your license does not cover you to drive a manual, and as I showed above, your insurance premiums will go up.
Re: General discussion chat When i first insured my light pickup it was insane. So much so that i saved thousands and thousands a year by going under my dads insurance. Atleast until I can build a good driving record and be driving for about 5-7 years then i will probably go under my own. At least now i pay next to nothing. I think it was $60 a month. compared to like $750 a month. Even with the truck being in good condition, no prior accidents, no upgrades (that she seen) etc. They really charge you up the arse when your a new driver around here. Especially if you dont complete a driving school type of program, which helps lower the price.
Re: General discussion chat Well, its a pickup, it isnt going to be cheap to insure in the first place
