I’m a little late to join in on the Subaru discussion, but I think the car is fairly attractive for what it is. Engine and transmission, meh, but physically I think it looks nice. I’ve always had a thing for Subaru’s, though, so that could be it too.

I’m really pretty impressed what some Japanese automakers have done with their cars, like Toyota’s Camry and Corolla, and how they’ve really changed in the past few years, for the better in my opinion. However, for something like one of Toyota’s nicer cars, say the Avalon here in the US, I think have definitely changed, however, not as positively. Take the 2003 Avalon. Nice car, comfortable, relatively affordable (especially today, you can get a nice one for around $2500-$3000) and just nice to cruise around town in. Then, you have the 2019 Avalon. Stiffer suspension, and it tries to put on a sportier face that doesn’t match previous years in really any way, shape, or form, other than the name and that it’s a sedan.

Yea, it is a lot but she has been well maintained. Everything exept child lock works and only damage is cracked and scuffed front bumper from a parking lot hit&run.

That does unfortunately happen to some beloved nameplates, where they are revised or revived for the worst.

Even Toyota's other cars have proven to taken a wrong turn over time.

Somehow I ended up with 2 stroke scooter, was bit busy day driving it without insurance, running from cops and then taking it apart and putting back together.

Ah well, almost reminds me of adventures of when I was young.

Now I just need to find 2 stroke oil that does not smell so horrible when burned and I can have bit of mobility again.

Oh no, I chopped firewood for it, but it had no insurance (had not been used for several years) and I had to transport it for some 30km, then there was a road check or how you translate that so I took smaller road to avoid that, it did turn right from front of police and they kinda waved to get in there, but I turned to road and there really was not a chase or anything, they probably didn't want to check my papers so enthusiastically.

I remember when some guy rammed into the back of our Yaris at 4 a.m. when everyone was asleep, sounded like a bomb. We couldn't find his car, but the car survived this and another accident in 2016.

A lot of cars have been doing that lately. I think some of the major problems are the oversized grilles, which I think makes them look faster than what they actually are.

i thought my bike would take the mud somewhere else but the bike betrayed me on a bike trail and all of a sudden it took it my pants as a enemy and well.........
sorry if i put this in the wrong place.
i guess that 25mph bike ride into a muddy trail didnt help me at all.
nothing but sliding and a head whack by a twig on a tree

Nah those mk1 octavias are tanks when it comes to crashes. Also the guy who bought it also bought another octavia from us that had supposedly a damage of 8 grand but he repaired it for less than a 1000 euros and not even our skoda dealer knows how he has done it

What I have heard is that it is popular among Asian markets, including China. Which are increasingly important to car makers due to the size and profitability of those markets.

With that said, if big grilles didn't sell in other markets, I am sure they would give the cars a face-lift before they tried to sell them.

I like how subaru is keeping this "dated" look. Keeping cars looking more like cars rather than fashion statements :p
