May be related to the amount of sound emitter.
There's an setting in Options > Audio to control how many of them you can have.
Higher setting, more CPU is required.

Some FPS dips here and there, I'm mainly playing the game with The Fair Grounds mod, where I run usually about 7 AI cars + myself. I just tested out, there is some random FPS dips here and there where some of the engine sounds sometimes cuts.

And about the sounds themselves, when you listen to real life cars that don't have exhaust and only have manifolds, they sound very raw and distorted.

    Good to know, thanks

Loving the new audio upgrades. The shifting now sounds more natural & doesn't cut off the sound like it did before (the same thing can be heard in Gran Turismo Sport). The metal scratching sounds VERY realistic & the new engine sounds are just 11/10.

Made me love the game even more, just from the new sounds

P.S. The only complaint I have, is that the Piccolina engine sound has background noise in it, which sounds like a constant wind

The new sounds are great, and I really like them. However, how do we control gear whine?

Really appreciate the work you guys put into the audio so far.

My wishes: Straight cut gear whine for the Race transmissions
Better afterfire sounds, more bang (atm it sounds like someone slapped the microphone)
Turbo bov sounds are still sometimes cut off

That sounds like you are actually talking about a feature, just like IRL, if the BOV closes while it's still not done venting the overpressure, the sound is cut.
Or are you talking about something else?

The current afterfire sounds are fine for modern, stock cars. The thumping and rumbling is pretty close to DSG farts and lightly modified engines on modern vehicles. However, for older vehicles, or full race tuned ones, afterfires are a lot louder and crisper.

Not quite sure if it counts as a "bug" or not, I very rarely hear the bov go off either when shifting or letting of the throttle, the bov sound plays for a couple of milli secs. and then cuts off.
I will try to get a sound file, but it happens rather rarely.
EDIT: Got one "on tape" It´s right near the end, just didn´t edit the video so you can skip to 50 seconds.

Very glad to see that my suggestions were implemented into the game. Sounds amazing.

What would it take (and why isn't it already done?) to get the car's sound radius increased? It seems the cars simply aren't loud enough from more than 50ft away.

Here's a couple more vids showing "modified" sound and how much it really REALLY adds to it all - ai drivers, sound amplified/limited in Premiere:

Haven't gotten around to every car yet, but I do genuinely dislike the 4.5L's new sound. Is it still in the game where I could re-mod it to be my default again or is it gone?

An actual thing I feel y'all actually could improve on is the road noise. Seems like the tires are far too loud now.

I agree so much, that really does sound a lot better. Although it would need a bit of balancing, you really can't hear the engine of most stock vehicles from more than 20 feet away, while Drag racers can give you permanent hearing damage at that distance.

Also, @TDK , the sound section of the wiki didn't even cover all the sections of FMOD in v0.10, and I can only figure out so much with trail and error. Please, I beg of you, update the wiki.

The new sounds are amazing! Can't wait to start creating my own. However, the road noise is really loud, at the point that I'm unable to hear some engine sounds (like the 4cyl diesel one). It's also louder even when using the interior cam (where it should be quieter due to the car's soundproofing). You may want to tune it a bit lower for the next hotfix or at least fix the road noises leaking into the car's interior since I believe that's a bug.

Also, is there any way to customize the gear whine volume?

What is your soundcard, speakers / headset and do have any audio enhancements (like EQ) enabled?

Every sound system tends to be bit different.

I have Roccat Juke USB soundcard and Steelseries headset, at 50mph ETK800 4cyl diesel can't be much heard when engine braking at top gear, which is how it is in reality, but when accelerating slowly on top gear at 50mph engine is very much audible, even stronger than what I would think it is IRL with very small acceleration.

However what you describe sounds quite different how it is for me.

Interior sound for example I don't find to be louder, but tone is lower, like real car inside the car you have low bass rumble from road noise, but when observing car from outside that is not present.

For example in Dirt rally I can't hear engine when braking even when sitting on hood of the car, only antilag banging and road noise / stones hitting is louder than in BeamNG for me at least, but IRL road noises etc are really loud and wind noise at higher speeds can drown engine sound quite well on normal road cars:

I don't have a discrete sound card plugged in my PC, I'm using the stock Realtek chip that came with it. I don't have any EQ enhancement turned on and I play the game with my Sennheiser HD 202 headsets. They're cheap but they have a really good audio quality.
The main problem is that the road/wind noise gets into the cabin as if the windows were rolled down. Every other sound is filtered correctly like in real life. Crashes, engine sound, horns have that low bass proper from a car with a good sealed cabin. However, I can hear the road noise as if the door seals were busted. Idk, maybe it's a problem in my end.

No, I think your explanation makes it now perfectly clear what you meant and now that you mentioned I think I have noticed that about wind noise too, it kinda misses filtering other sounds are getting, maybe it is WIP area of sounds or something, but definitely I can 'see' what you meant now :)

the I6D_2 and V8D both have whistling sounds present (presumably turbos). i believe it's the intake sound for the V8, and the intake + exhaust for the I6. overall, fantastic job on the sounds. this update is amazing; some vehicles' sounds have even surpassed the realism of GT sport or forza. the only thing is, the pigeon i4 uses the i3 sound i believe. is this a case of it just being a better fit? or is it sort of an accident :p

The latest audio update is a great improvement. I really enjoy how much it adds to Beamng.
Things ive experienced as an 'issue':

Volume decreases/cuts sound on rev limiter (not sure which if not all vehicles thats effected..), experienced the same thing back when i was playing RACER (by Ruud Van Gaal) when the actual max rpm of the engine and engine sound matched, always neeed to let the sound limit to be alittle higher.
