FM, sirius satellite radio with real life stations would be a great feature to put in the game. A song or station would show up on the radios display. A source could be something like iHeartRadio or something else.
I guess this could be just mp3 player that supports internet radio stream like some mp3 player programs for computer do. Hmm, maybe command line mp3 player of such exists, UI for that would be possible as well as connection of that to car display I think, @aljowen surely would know if such could be possible to achieve as he has pretty cool display system in his mod car.
Online radio is not possible (for modders at least) . Beamng sandboxes stuff preventing Internet access, for obvious virus prevention related reasons. But the developers could write a purpose made Internet radio Api for apps etc to use. I can't see it being a high priority though. Mp3 playback afaik should work already. As long as the media is stored locally. This could be done by an app, or car. But different methods for each. On the car side, HTML can play media files quite trivially. So I would imagine it could be done like that, unless it's been disabled in the embedded version of chrome that is used.
If there was a in car radio in beam it would probably go like this: UI app, put all of your desired music files into a folder in beam ( like the mods folder ) and listen away. that would be easy, no?
Instead of real life radio stations we could make our own stations with our own jingles and non copyright music like the devs write the radio code n such implement it in the game and then when we want to make a radio stations we add sound files in order like RADIO JINGLE, {INSERT RADIO NUMBER AND NAME}, YOU ANNOUNCING THE SONG OR SUCH, SONG 1. SONG 2, {UP TO SONG LIMIT}, REPEAT. and then with Beamngs community if someone wants to they can help make music or you can become an independent radio station btw if we did make our own music n such we would have to agree on legal terms n such because what if your favorite youtuber uses your radio station and you dont like it then you would probably sue or something.
Doesnt Beamng use internet access? Also when we are online the UI should work with a trustful program that will not run with many issues. We could type commands into a file on what radio station we want to listen to. --- Post updated --- My iPod Nano 5th gen has a radio feature on it as well as my brothers flip-phone which why he got it is a long story.
BeamNG has internet access, apps within BeamNG do not. It is difficult and time consuming to verify the safety of code, and internet access would make it a lot easier for a mod to download viruses to a players PC. Obviously, that's not good PR for the developers, and also not good for players either. If the developers write a feature into the game that allows an app to request an internet radio stream it would be possible. But I don't think that is likely to happen at all. Since you can just [shift+tab] and open an internet radio stream in steam. There was a BeamNG build that was released a little while back, which had some features in that the developers had (presumably) forgotten to remove. One of which was a road importer that could download map data from the internet, and bring them in game. It wasn't anywhere close to being finished though, and from memory I think the devs said that it wasn't going to be finished. So as I said above, providing the developers provide an internet radio app API, then an app could be made to use it, otherwise, its not going to happen. With all of that said, apps do have file access. So if you were to write software that can stream internet radio, then you could save play/pause commands to a file from an app in BeamNG, for the utility to then read and process (whenever the "file modified" metadata changes in windows). You could even use the same system to pass stream data back to BeamNG, for putting internet radio station names in car dashboards. But that is quite a bit of work.
My iPod Nano 5th gen has a radio feature on it as well as my brothers flip-p Well with the radio display thing, GTA5 has it in some vehicles that have something similar to a navigation system screen
This how I made my saveable odo state Personally I would start with mp3 player first and see from there..
