Is World Editor an internal "in house" entity owned and operated by the BeamNG development team, exclusively for editing in BeamNG? Or is it from a 3rd Party Company/Developer, who sells/licenses it to many different video game development teams, and BeamNG just so happens to be one of them? I ask this because, if it's the latter, then that may explain why a lot of the things that people wish BeamNG could do/change, might not be the developers' faults. Might they be tied and bound to the limitations of World Editor, if it is indeed an outside sourced Editor/SDK (or whatever you want to call it); and they don't have the kind of control to change things that they otherwise would, if world parameters were say... tied to text editable files within the (internal game --?) LUA? Before I ever cast aspersions at the team, for this, that, or the other thing... this would be an interesting question to have answered. It would certainly help explain why editable-parameters may seem limited at times. Thanks.
I'm not up to date with Beam's map tools, but last time I checked, it was Torque3D's built in world editor. Since T3D is full source and open source I don't think there are any licencing limitations per se, just technical ones, if any. See this random pic I googled, same interface and tools at BeamNG has (or had, again, it's been a while): As far as I know the devs have shown early work on a new world editor of their own, so that might be less bound by T3D's approach for "genericness" and more tailored to something suitable for this specific game.
Oh wow! That looks exactly like it... nuts, bolts, and all! Interesting how one generic, open source product, and can make its way to so many different places. And myself not having much experience with multiple video games -- (I'm more of a, "Find what I like & stick with it for 10 years" kind of guy)-- I've not seen this phenomenon of generic map tools being shared with multiple games before. My experience has mostly been in the flight simulators owned and operated by Microsoft... and of course, they seem to do everything "in house" at Mr. Gates' house! LOL Oh... and BTW.... thank you for replying to my post so quickly. It's nice to get confirmation of what I had suspected all along.
