Admittedly way more was done to the Corvair apart from a front anti-roll bar. They also added a transverse leave spring in the rear suspension to compensate for camber changes in the swing axle design as well as being extra support for the softer coil springs already in place.

For the 1965 model year, they completely changed the suspension geometry to fully independent without swing axles. The damage was already done, however.

It's also important to note that the issues with the BMW i3 are partly caused by the public being more used to a front engined, FWD car. They simply don't understand that a rear engined, RWD car is going to pendulum far greater and much faster. The same issues were what helped damage the reputation of the Corvair.

I was able to find an article online that mentioned the topic.
    https://evobsession.com/a-year-with-the-bmw-i3-has-left-me-baffled-so-close-to-perfection/

They said that the base model car has the 155/70 R19 tyres mentioned above, but every other version has 175/60 R19 tyres. They felt that all versions should have had the wider 175mm tyres. But they also said that the traction control does an excellent job when a slippery surface catches you out.

I remember magazines saying that it had good roadholding.... eh.

Unfamiliar cars + people = accidents. The I3 probably takes less than other cars, but it’s not like any car in the hands of an idiot is safe.

fine, my own car got hit. Sub 5 mph, £1500 repair bill. Grandparents neighbour, reversed into front wall of house, front of house collapsed, near enough 100000gbp damages. Hell, a colleague was telling me a story about his previous workplace (an electronics firm), someone got hit by a car while walking to a meeting with a client, they survived *relatively* unscathed, the prototype in their backpack didn't, it was worth near enough half a million, unusual edge case, sure, but still happens, I had a phone destroyed when some twat thought swerving for a puddle and soaking me was funny, water logged, dead phone from a car hitting a puddle. many documented cases of kids being killed below 10mph, usually while playing in farmyards. Many. I can't help it if you have a foolish belief that people are invincible to being hit by a colossal mass like a car, have you not even seen the news? People getting bagged for manslaughter because they killed someone in one punch? All it takes is someone to fall and hit their head wrong angle, or get a leg trapped under the wheel, or anything really, hell, throw in US healthcare being a bitch and for those guys the medical costs can potentially spiral. Think a little, exercise that tiny brain

A ban wouldn't even be that unprecedented in the US, muh freedom, considering they required mass recalls for vehicles exhibiting the exact same behaviour or ban imports, or ban harmless foods.

Just because the U.S. has bans on stupid things now doesn't mean we need more.
Today I was sitting in a drive through in a 2018 Nissan Sentra with about 38k miles on it if memory serves correct. AC suddenly started blowing hot and the battery light came on. Then the CEL did as well as I was leaving the establishment. Got up the road a bit and it wouldn't do anything more than putter along at 10mph, foot to the floor. Didn't dawn on me until I pulled into a gas station and popped the hood and saw coolant puking out of the reservoir that it was overheating. Gauge was pegged.
Was able to limp it to the shop down the street after letting it cool off for a bit. Accessory belt had fallen off. Glad it's not my car.

    £1500 is nowhere near massive.
Who the fuck builds houses like that?
    Offtopic.
Link one. Probably involves children run over by heavy machinery or pinned against walls.
I have, and I've never seen headlines like "BMW I3 SPINS OUT AT 20 KMH, WIPES OUT ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD".
    Red herrings and personal attacks.

Wow you missed so many points.

I'll leave you with this and hope your idée Fixe is resolved, https://www.lawhancock.com/blog/low-speed-car-crashes-causing-injuries/

Speed, does not matter, hope you enjoy being crushed by a 599 kilo object (fatal) or a wheel going over your leg

    Insults aren't points.
Have you ever read that article?
"These crashes also include may crash types including going into bodies of water, occupants injured in the back of trucks, and large vehicles such as semi-trucks hitting smaller vehicles like motorcycles or mopeds". This has nothing to do with the i3 handling problem you have invented. You don't see a difference between a car spinning out at 20 kmh and a truck crushing a motorbike? Bad for you. You keep bitching about pedestrians, but the article you just brought up is about "Low-speed car crashes that are defined as crashes when all vehicles involved are traveling between 1 and 10 MPH and do not involve any pedestrians (FLHSMV)".
Sure, but I'd have to be standing in the middle of a busy intersection to be killed by a spinning out i3. If it spins out at 20 kmh, it won't likely even reach the sidewalk, and if it will, it will lose so much speed it's never going over the curb.

I've seen cars mount pavements in 20mph spin outs and i3s spin out at more like 30, in conditions where other vehicles tackle the same junction in excess of 50
1 insult. 1. You still missed so many points. But hey, carry on with your false illusion that even a 30mph collision has 0 consequences whatsoever

Sadly, Lee Iaccoca just passed away at 94. I didn't really know who he was, but I know he changed the automotive industry. RIP

Without Lee Iaccoca, we wouldn't have the Ford Mustang and, arguably, Chrysler as a whole. The man was a legend in the automotive industry.

Aha, so they spin at 50 kmh? That's nowhere near low-speed. An average driver passing a 90* bend with an RR car in slippery conditions at such speed is certainly not a good idea.
You missed almost all of mine, so we're even at that.
I never said that. Don't strawman please ;). And don't carry on with the false illusion that you're always right.

I can't get over how sporty and decent the Ssangyong Musso looks from some angles, and how absolutely terrible it is from other angles..
    there it looks really sporty

but then a full car shot:

but damn the styling makes me want one soooo bad. I know it is hideously impractical, either a ridiculously slow 2.9 TD or a massively fast 3.2 i6 merc engine. Oh how i'd love the merc engine :p it's like a knockoff rangerover, but imo it looks much better. It just looks awesome and so 90s i could die for it.

I'm cheaping out on a new car, but it's a good upgrade from what I currently have. No more Ford Ka, those things work but you learn to hate them. For this thing it's the interior that got me to like it. It's hilariously spartan, and the car is so honest to god basic that I think I'll enjoy it (and my god is it ever easy to park with all that glass around me). I felt like I was sitting in something imported from Russia. It's that weird brownish beige colour and lack of creature comforts that made me go for it. It's a cheap car that's honest about being so fuckin cheap.

    photo_2019-07-04_20-55-48.jpg

As I said to the salesman... "I'd check it more but there's honestly nothing here to break". I've haggled her down to £850 and I drive it home in the morning. With £30 in car tax to pay, new tyres, 65K miles on the clock, nothing scary in the service history, 11 months MOT, a 2 year warrenty and insurance only being £200 for the year... I'd drive far worse for that and that makes me really happy. Turns out, if you want a cheap car in the UK you should hunt down 10 year old Hyundai budget cars.

My Mum has a Hyundai i10 which she has had since new. They are good cheap cars, but don't mistake them for being bullet proof.
With that many miles, you are getting into the territory where the more consumable suspension/wheel components are going to need replacing at some point. I would also expect some level of rattling, these cars have a very harsh/stiff ride quality, so it's inevitable.
That said, repairs are usually cheap and easy to do, since as you said, they are mechanicaly simple.
For example, one strange issue we had was most the electronics in the boot lid failing (lights, locks, etc) , turns out some of the cables had freyed and snapped. So, easy stuff to fix, but still plenty to go wrong.

Budget cars are a good choice when looking for a set of wheels just to get around. They are often shobbishly overlooked, but they offer low mileage, careful previous ownership and official dealership service history - all while costing the same as used and abused older higher-end cars.

    near enough.

My Ka was in the garage every 2 months. Whatever happens to this, I'm sure I could fix it myself. It looks about as complex as a microwave. Either way, this should see me out of the recession the UK is about to get into.

Because it uses a year and region code system similar to the UK I can't just use a random number generator, and this is much better than a big spreadsheet. It automatically biases the result towards newer cars by a realistic margin and adds an extra letter when it rolls over 99999. Autism brain is very happy :D
