News to me. I thought someone had posted the parameters once and they didn't seem very impressive.

Also, the whole point of my post is that I would expect a government-run insurance company might have much tougher standards in an attempt to make people drive/live in a robotic, regimented way, exactly as prescribed with no deviation. Remember that this is the government that hunted someone down several months after the fact over a 2AM roundabout drift that hurt no one, wasn't even close to hurting anyone, and was only found out about when someone went sifting through old security camera footage for some reason, simply because it was an affront to their authority.

Correction, crown prosecution service chased someone down several months later over the fact that someone *could* have been hurt.

The police and the government aren't the same thing. They're split up specifically to enforce police being independent of the controlling party

Still horrifyingly overzealous as far as I'm concerned. I mean, I can understand giving the guy a ticket if you catch him in the act, but hunting him down from found footage most of a year later and telling him he's lucky he didn't go to jail? Good grief, is there something in the water? And people wonder why someone made a game out of smashing cameras...

In the end, though, it's all the government to me. The desire for unbridled authoritarianism is there. One way or another, it will find its way to the citizenry if given half a chance.

I'm very against oppressive neosocialist governments, but there's nothing wrong with punishing hoons who intentionally break the driving rules. Today, yesterday, a year ago - doesn't matter if there's evidence. Sure, you don't have to do precisely 60 in the 60 zone, but you have to understand the possible consequences.

Finally fixed a minor issue that's been bothering me for years in my n47 engine (bmw e87).

The rubber in its now-10yr-old breather hose apparently is unable to withstand the temperatures, so it slowly deteriorates over time, and had started extremely slowly leaking small amounts oil passing through it.

The old soft-rubber seal in the foreground, new hard-plastic revision of the same part, already installed, in the background:

Not at all. Just drives like a normal car, kinda.
It doesn't really feel like it drives at all, it just lazily coasts through the spacetime continuum. The controls are just that numb. Absolutely ghastly.

Finally got it back from the body shop as well as put it on factory spec rims.

    It looked like that before:

Also attempted a headlight change on my other megane:

All to find out that base spec had slightly different headlights to the top spec I got the lights from... which means none of the plugs I have in it fit and I'll have to get some plugs from a junkyard tomorrow... Also the joys of getting a cheap car with no known history behind it, bumper was held on by 2 pins as well as a single wood screw lol. Now its held on by some duck tape 2 pins 1 screw and 2 zip ties and somehow shakes even more, but it stays on while driving on dirt roads at 120km/h so I think its good enough.

Fixed the terrible idling issue today on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Previous owner secured the intake tube with hose clamps and some sticky stuff. Removed sticky stuff and cranked the hose clamps down extremely tight. No more extra air going into the Holley throttle body (yeah, Chrysler used a Holley system from the factory). Cleaned the Idle Air Control Valve and its little cavity it sits in. Runs very good now, ready for some cheap used tires and registration.

I was already planning on upgrading this year, but I'm not quite in the financial position to do so at this exact moment in time even with insurance money. I'm going to do my classic buy a £500 runaround car, which at least also means lower running costs for the summer to save up more money towards deposit on next car. We'll see what happens really. Don't know what I'm getting for the Subaru yet
