This challenge has since been cancelled! Please read latter posts.
Between now and late December this year, our SlipStream Discord community will be running a large event, called the Rush Rally.

This challenge is not for the faint hearted!

The Rush Rally will involve you and your team making a car from scratch, and then driving it as far as you possibly can before a set finishing time later this year. Along the way, there will be numerous bonus events scattered around to help boost your points, and give you a better chance of winning. The team with the highest number of points by the end of the rally will win. Teamwork is very important here, and so is choosing the right vehicle.

This challenge will be based almost entirely within the SlipStream Discord server. Hopefully, by the end, we'll end up with around 10-20 new vehicles for the game, which I think is a nice trade-off for everyone else who isn't taking part.

    Rules:
(RRM is short for a Rush Rally Moderator, of which there are a few of within the SlipStream.)
    • You must enter with a team of at least two or more people. If you want to go solo, please ask an RRM. Please bear in mind that being part of a team is very useful in this challenge, both in helping with progress and in driving (more info on that later)
    • It's important to come up with a good team name, not only for the fun of it, but also for your own unique role on the SlipStream when you join.

    Your vehicle must:
    • Have not been already made/released for the game (excluding meshlaps/'Russian Mods'/abandoned projects etc)
    • Be based on a real car
    • Be made as accurate to the real car as possible
    • Be branded as a lore-equivalent vehicle, in order to go onto the repository at the end
    • Have been mass produced (some exceptions allowed, eg batch produced; ask an RRM)
    • Be designed for road use
    • Be road legal
    • Be/have been able to be bought by anyone from a manufacturer dealership
    • Not classify as a supercar or muscle car
    • Run on petrol (gasoline), diesel or biofuel only - hybrids and EVs are not allowed

Once you have chosen a vehicle to make, you must ask an RRM whether it is able to be used.
    • Every aspect of your car must be made from scratch. This includes models, textures and JBeams. However a few common parts are able to be used, eg stock game tyres (if they match real spec), stock game engine sounds, mirror reflective textures etc.
    • Likewise, you must not share any parts with an existing vehicle, other than the obvious (manufacturer badges, etc if applicable)
    • You must post progress of your car being made, whether that's textures, models or jbeam, regularly. This is so we can make sure it's all custom and legit.
    • Your must aim to have your vehicle of similar or higher quality to an official vehicle.
    • RRMs are allowed to help guide you with making your vehicle if you're struggling with a certain aspect, for example JBeam or model polyflow.
    • You may post progress on a forum thread as well as on Discord, however you must not release your vehicle, under any circumstances, until the challenge has ended. The only people allowed to have your vehicle during the challenge are your team and the RRMs.
The main event will not start until all of the team vehicles are ready.

Entries must be made before Sunday, July 21st, in order to keep our vehicle completion dates timely. The goal is to have all team vehicles ready to enter by mid August or sooner.

More information on the main event, including rules and other information, will be posted later, in the SlipStream.

The SlipStream itself is a large community of mine, which was started about 2 years ago. It has over 100 members, and is a relaxed server, mainly focused on BeamNG, but also other miscellaneous games/hobbies, as well as a wide variety of other channels.

We currently have four different teams, with their own vehicles. You are welcome to join any of them if they give permission.
    Their vehicles include:
    • 1984-1991 Renault-Alpine GTA (my team!)
    • 1983-1989 Nissan 300ZX
    • 2014-present Ford F-Series
    • 1995-2003 Mitsubishi Mirage
These teams have already begun making their vehicles, but don't worry, we're all at very early stages right now :p

As you can see, we already have various types of vehicle entered. You can enter any car you like, as long as it suits the rules. The main aim is not to win - but to have fun taking part! So, it's important to make a vehicle you're really interested in making, rather than one that's focused on winning the rally. After all, you and your team will be driving around 7,000 miles (~11,250km) during the main event, so you may as well have a vehicle you're going to very much enjoy driving.

    (Link removed)

P.S. : Neither this challenge nor this Discord server have any affiliation or association with the Modding for Dummies Discord community, any of its staff or members, or its events and challenges.
This challenge is a standalone creation of mine, which was actually dreamt up as a bit of fun for some vehicular competition while I was making my Alpine GTA. You can probably tell that I like a bit of a challenge! :D

    Damn...
    This is really nice.
Like- I’m not close enough to be able to participate (maybe could do some jbeam work and configs lol) but I’m seriously interested in this.
I will be keeping a close eye on this thread. Thanks Atomspeed for such a cool and unique idea.
I also like the idea of the prize not being the main objective- by to have fun and provide some good mods for the community. This and MFD are things I personally love to see on the forums. Granted, I in no way am good enough to participate- but i seriously think that we need more of these throughout the community.
This thread has lots of promise and I am expecting more :)

Thanks a bunch first of all! :p
Just a heads up too, much of the progress and announcements for the challenge will be all on the SlipStream, although major stuff, as well as screenshots and other occasional things, will be posted here.

Also, if anyone would like to watch/spectate the challenge, you can still join the SlipStream without joining the challenge itself - it's a casual server after all. Main vehicle progress, team discussion, as well as discussion about the event itself, will mainly be over there - so if you want more frequent updates, or want to join in with the conversation, you're all very welcome!

My own team plans have changed. I think we're all gonna like this one: both me, my team, and anyone reading this.

We've decided to join up with another team member or two, and, at the same time, agree on a way better car.

    It's the original Morris Mini!

I figured it only made sense. Why make a mundane 80s wedge, albeit quite a French classic - but instead of one of these? You'd be insane not to swap for it!

And yes, pretty much all of its many versions will eventually arrive. We're currently in a team of 4 people, me included, with me doing pretty much all of the WIP work on the car.

It's important to note that you can still enter with a team of up to 5 people, and those people are allowed to simply drive the car during the main driving event, with only one or two of the members actually making the vehicle. However, if you're a bit less capable on the modding side of things, it's advised you buddy up with someone/some people you know who are a little more skilled.

We don't have any more definite team entries quite yet. I'm not too surprised to be honest, this challenge is a bit daunting - however, it must also be said that over on the server, we can help you along with making your vehicle if you're a little rusty.

The deadline for team entries is supposed to be this Sunday, but I'm willing to extend that slightly if people want. The deadline for the team entries was set like this to get the cars finished around the latter part of August, but with some new things being introduced, that's still possible with a little later deadline.

Just to clarify - Sunday 21st is not the deadline for having your car ready. It is just the deadline for entering you and your team into the challenge, with a chosen car to make. We'll all obviously take much longer to make the cars themselves!

Also, there will be no deadline for when the cars will have to be ready. We will all start at the same time, once all the team vehicles are finished.

I feel like our newly chosen car is going to make the whole thing a lot more fun for everyone, both to watch and to compete. I hope you agree too! :p

If anyone wants to know, I'm one of the drivers for the Morris Mini (won't tell who the others are unless they want to).

Should be loads of fun for the drivers and eventually after release, you guys too!

    Had fun though :p

Stay tuned for more of these.

This is also kinda a voice reveal to non-SlipStreamers

It's been decided that this challenge is to be called off. There simply isn't enough interest in it, nor enough people willing to make scratch-made vehicles any more.
To be honest, that was the whole point of starting this challenge in the first place. I knew that nobody really did scratch-done cars any more, and this was supposed to be a bit of an opportunity to bring the scene back to life - but it looks like this 'scene', at the end of the day, no longer exists.

Here's a little bit of me talking about the whole thing, on the SlipStream itself. After giving up on the Alpine and moving to the Mini, I found that all of the car's blueprints were annoyingly inaccurate, no matter which ones I used. I then experimented with making a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo III, but decided that it would be pretty pointless - and while making it, found that its blueprints were also bad.

I will continue to experiment with making a variety of different cars for the game, but as said above, I may be getting a real-life project car of my own soon enough.
