How about a train that had a schedule and just drove itself if you set it to do so or you could drive lt. like in ror. Thank you

    Link does work.
And it's a good idea, although I imagine the Devs already knew about it & this is in their to-do list (I'm saying this because they must've noticed the response on RoR when Trains came thru).

    Would be fun.
Although it would require more work on (high-speed) collision.
I would say do this after release, but I think before release might be better (esp. for those who come to BeamNG new, they would instantly love the game for the trains).

I think this game needs dd40x,sd70,etc.

It would be nice if one of the maps had a train, but I don't think it needs to be drivable

I agree with oskars, trains not necessarily drivable. But man...Look at the creativity the community has come up with so far: cars, trucks, gliders, rockets, planes! Trains would be a great addition.

But think of this: Having AI trains (and tracks) that crisscross the entire map, across, over, under roads: adding moving trains into the game would add up to some spectacular destruction, and great game-play/racing mechanics! I bet a separate game could even be made to rival the current train simulators out there: a better product, and with fantastic physics and crashes!

I must say that the BeamNG DEVs IMO have the best-possible PC racing game/modding community that could combine all types of vehicular transport, in a variety of manners. Now that I know what the potential possibilities are, I would definitely pay more into this game if these features were added.

I mean gosh... you could even add Deer, rabbits (possible road kill) that randomly traverse the maps as you drive, causing damage.

Anyway.... having trains would rock. If I had the coding gift/ability that many in the community have, I would work on it. Sadly, I don't--I just have ideas :(

First question: Trains need train tracks. This game does not have any maps with train tracks. The trains would have considerable amounts of lag, and there isn't really a reason for a train to have soft body physics.

Second question: Animals have been discussed, and it has been mentioned that animals and humans are not needed, because it would be hard to code into the game, and why would there need to be animals to run over? It would just add unneeded violence, and it would deter quite a few people from buying the game.

    1. I do not know requirements specs to have these options (and no the train doesn't have to be soft-bodied).... but yes tracks would have to be created, and if too much lag, then not a good idea for now.

    2. Agreed. Not wanting to encourage road kill, but adding an element of the "unknown" into the game. Not advocating cruelty in any way.

Trains, interesting... I liked them in ROR.

But honestly, I think this should be something for the modders.
Weren't the ROR trains created by modders too?

Anyway, as someone said, trains don't need to be drivable. I'd love to jump infront of a train... ... Eerrrr...
But I think it'd be kind of GTA-frustrating for some (including me) if we couldn't drive it.
Also I think that if it isn't drivable it should apply the brakes if it hit you to avoid glitchy situations and then after 5 minutes it should start moving again. However it shouldn't stop on a dime, it's still a train.

Drivable or not driveable, it'd probably add lot of fun to the game.
"Train? I CAN MAKE IT" *floors it, gets hit by a train*

But as I said, this is more a mod thing. And I'm sure someone will start making a train eventually, I think we should give it time.

There could be random pieces of stuff on the road (maybe near a construction site or something, there could be a probability of your tires to pop, from nails, and it could just be an effect thing, instead of adding those tiny nails to the road, creating more lag.) instead of animal stuff, which could add an element of "unknown".

Actually, yes. The train would, in the current state of things, need to be soft body.

One of the main caveats of Torque is that it lacks dynamic rigid body collision meshes. A while ago, a community member was trying to figure out how to make his collideable drawbridge raise and lower, only to find that it is impossible to do so without an N/B.

A JBeam can be made near rigid. It doesnt need to deform so a flat side can simply be a flat side instead of being broken into a grid for nicer deformation, leaves a rather simple/lag free JBeam. Done.

why not? it really annoys me that (as far as the gaming world is concerned) everyone views trains as invincible objects. hell, in reality some even have crumple zones.

how about some examples. example #1. the trailer this locomotive hit could have been loaded almost another 20,000lbs legally and without special permits (in the us). as you can see it still caused alot of damage to the locomotive.

    (imported from here)
example #2. sence I know some ones bound to say "nhu uh boi! tranz don't gots crumple zones!" this picture is an example of just that, a locomotive with crumple zones.

    (imported from here)
example #3. of course THEN some ones gonna say. "yea but that's just the new ones, the old trains didn't bend like that" well I think this old f-unit tells a different story.

    (imported from here)
example #4. actually f-units in particular had a nasty habit of snapping off behing the cab. but hey, they worked as intended. the cab area remained intact, and the breakage occurred behind the cab

I think it would be awesome

on a side note "36 m/s per hour"

36 meters per second, per hour. Because that's a thing.

Yeah many "gamers" think that trains are invincible like in GTA :D.
