    Yeah, use chromium instead.

Firefox is banned at work now, so many CVEs logged against it that don't get fixed too quickly

Its a licensing issue. Google is rich enough that they can afford to pay the licensing fees for GPU acceleration of the video codecs that they chose to use on YouTube. Mozilla cannot afford to pay for that, so CPU decoding is used instead.
Mozilla has been doing a lot of work developing new open source video codecs that deliver improved performance. Hopefully youtube will adopt them at some point, because they are rather good. Until then, there is no fix other than to use a chromium based Web browser, or use a computer powerful enough to handle it. For reference, my I5 2500k can handle a 4k youtube video without issue. I've not had any issues outside of youtube either.

I would say this is probably the biggest single issue that Firefox has in terms of user experience. I am also not convinced that Google considers anything outside of chromium worth keeping in mind during the design /implementation process of building their services.

Not licensing, YouTube's codecs are deliberately open standards, Mozilla just openly refuses to utilise any open standard Google defined in order to prevent Google monopolies, so uses the h264 fallback, which in turn Mozilla can't hardware accelerate anyway as it's not an open standard and they won't pay royalties on. It's Mozilla being deliberately awkward

You are correct about the licensing thing, I just looked it up.

The AV1 standard that they are working on (along side Google et al) is based on Googles own VP9. So I would guess that Mozilla is putting its eggs in that basket for the future rather than implementing vp9 for today. Especially as you said, because Mozilla is very against Google monopolising the Internet and therfore isn't keen on open standards (more like open proprietory standards? ) that Google controls.

Just to clarify though, Mozilla does not pay royalties to use h264, since they use OpenH264.

Well Chromium's privacy is ass, so I can't use that for anything other than youtube.

I have a Korn and Alice in Chains concert at Xfinity Center tomorrow.

I'm pumped as hell to go to it! Especially that it has Korn, one of the first metal bands I listened to, at the concert. Alice in Chains is the cherry on top of the cheesecake though.

    Step one: don't use Linux

Step two: if you cannot complete step one, use a standard Chromium build with DuckDuckGo.

Step two A: take off the tinfoil hat you're wearing, it gets hot in the summer time.

Those who are afraid of being tracked have something to hide. I have nothing to hide, so I practice basic safe browsing and let Google tell me about a cool new coffee shop that opened up near by. There's no such thing as privacy and the sooner people recognize that, the happier the world will be. Your ISP is collecting data on you. They see your traffic, and they know when you're seeding that fire new mix tape. Yeah, torrent file sharing is only encrypted going down, not up. Store pirated binary on a drive you can destroy if anyone starts noticing (or whatever else you need to hide (like your midget porn)).

"Why not TOR?" You may ask. Simple, government servers are on the onion network, and they're able to decrypt your silk road purchases. No amount of crypto currency can save you, they know you bought the next new drug all the kids are doing.

The real enemy here is FaceBook, if anything. That's been cited multiple times having sold data for money. The only protection from that is to live like it's 1999. A truly evil company. Back to playing Farmville.

    Look at my username

You just told Linux to stop using Linux

"Just because we are a democracy now, does not mean this will always be the case" - someone, I can't remember. What happens when the government/ISP/search engine/social media decides they don't appreciate your opinion? You have a lot to hide, you just don't realize it until it's too late. One of the reasons I use AMD/Linux/Firefox as much as I can.

Additionally, if my data is being used to create market value, then I should have control over how it is used. What Facebook, Google etc. do is intellectual property theft.

Also, I'm totally fine opening up a Chromium session just for Youtube and using Firefox for everything else, it's really not that hard.

So what if I get executed because the government decides to not like me? Oh well, still nothing to hide. Come at me, fuckers. I won't be here to see the collapse of society then. Go on, expose everything. I'll be dead, so I'll have a tough time caring. Shit, even if they expose everything and let me off I'll still not care.

I stole games? Yup, it was me. AAA developers have enough money as it is, they won't miss my $60. I stole music? See previous.

I street race? From time to time, get over it. What're you going to do? Suspend my license? I drove a vehicle that was unregistered almost on the daily for a month and a half, so a license won't stop me. I'm not European, I won't forget how to drive without a piece of plastic.

I voted for Trump? You're god damn right I did! Would I do it again? Let's see where the rest of the candidates finish. I'm feeling Kasich next year.

    Freeing, isn't it?

Fair enough - I mean, if people are being executed/imprisoned/fined/having their licenses suspended for googling things or voting for (insert candidate here), your society has other problems. In practice, nobody cares, it's more a matter of principle. At least in America.

Anyway, I've been using a low-resolution monitor and now I'm seeing little vertical scan lines everywhere I look. Is this normal?

Weird thing to announce, but today and for a couple days I will be taking a hiatus. No, it's nothing negative or that, just wanted to be able to focus more on my other communities and personal life.

    See ya whenever?

It's good to focus on your personal life. Very good, like. You can do the stuff you want to do, on a hiatus. Or, just be focused on real-life stuff. It's good for you to do that. I mean, I, myself. I'm not that much active on social-media type of sites, because I'm also focused on real-life stuff. And I'd rather focus more on that than to be active on whatever site.

The Euro rednecks next door have just reached a new high/low by detonating explosives in their garden.

    Rednecks gonna redneck, I guess?

So come to find out that my Jeep is leaking so much oil that the US wants to invade my driveway.

There are 3 causes for it to be leaking out of the bell housing that I've found.

    1. Rear main seal. There were two types in 1997 and one of those basically requires a full engine disassembly. The other is a two piece deal and isn't so bad to replace.

    2. Oil pan gasket, but that's unlikely as it's not leaking all around the bottom of the engine.

    3. Valve cover gaskets. This is the most wanted if I had to pick. Forums are stating that an RMS leak and a valve cover leak look almost identical visually underneath the truck.

    Fuck me running.
