Well, I don't like american cars (GM particularly) because they shut down a great car manufacturer.

And if they would've been going on as usual, they would've sold the most epic looking estate car ever.

Though they are in production today, they only sell the 9-3 Aero and only in limited amounts. Let's hope they get back on their feet properly again!

    Yes, American cars handle awfully...
As proven by this screenshot of Nordschleife laptimes, which shows that it requires a Nissan GTR, the so-called pinnacle of handling, about 5 tries, and to be tuned by Nismo before it could beat those big bad horrible American cars ;).
Especially the ZR1, which hasn't even been modified(since I guess you can count the Viper ACR to be modified the same way Nismo modified the GTR)

How incredibly ignorant do you feel now? I almost feel sorry for all the people who automatically assume American cars "don't handle" compared to their European/Japanese rivals. Sure, they get beaten, but they're still WAY cheaper cars than a lot of cars they're beating.

I kinda like American cars, I'd actually like to see more of them. Too bad the EU taxes the crap out of them, making it sensless to buy one. A Cadillac that costs around $50k in the US costs about €120K here in The Netherlands.

-I hate it when people say that American cars don't handle very well...
I mean, who the f**k needs handling anyway? In reality you'll just drive the speedlimit over tarmac with all the other road users. You won't ever 'race' it or need it to be fast (exept when you go to a track day ofcourse, but not a lot of people do). Waiting for traffic lights, just like everyone else. You don't need handling in real life traffic, you need comfort. That's why the old US cars handle like jelly.
-And the reason why they're not very fuel economic is because most of them have detuned engines (although many US carmanufactorers don't do that anymore). Detuned engines last longer, because they need to work less. It makes... Or actually *made sense for the US manufactorers to detune them because gas was very cheap. Now it is far from cheap so they actually see that they need to improve the fuel efficiency of their vehicles. That new Dodge RAM diesel gets 30 MPG. That's amazing for such a big, powerful and heavy vehicle. Hell, a Fiat Ducato with a much smaller engine struggles to get above 19MPG.
-American cars are bigger because their roads are waaaaaaaaaay bigger than ours. I've seen roads in the US that were just 2 lane, over here it would've been a 4 lane road...
-No, not every American car is a piece of precision-engineering or super good, but let's be honest, most EU/Jap cars are crap as well.

All Europeans who hate America(n cars) are ignorant, hypocrit and arrogant (as proven by many in this thread).

I dont wanna judge from which continent cars are better or worse, since they are about the same level of quality (between continents) and as some people said the cars in each continent are also very adapted to their roads, environment etc...

    but..

Why did you say most ?.. Im sure that in many cases it depends on drivers preferences. Of course there are many cheap and crappy cars around the world, but that doesnt mean every second car is total crap.

Okay, not most, that's a bit of an exegeration.
But really, for every sh*t US car, there's an equally sh*t EU car.

    EDIT
Actually, I said "as well" meaning that most cars are rather cheap, no matter what country they were built in.
Let's face it, a Skoda Fabia is not a Maybach, a Nissan Sunny isn't a Nissan GTR and a Pontiac Aztek is not a Cadillac CTS-V.

I can't think of anything that uses 70s technology except maybe the outgoing Mustang's SRA. (Trucks and fullframe SUVs don't count, some/most don't use IRS (and some didnt use IFS) for very good reason, solid axle is heavier duty and better for offroading.

American cars handle and perform just fine. I hope your young because that was an insanely ignorant and arrogant thing to say.

It is just down to different markets and what they need/require.

Why do Europeans hate American cars? Well... it's mainly because they are terrible in terms of fuel consumption. On the other hand, American sports cars are pretty cool, but the average SUV... yeah, they wouldn't be able to get around Europe because of their size and how much fuel they use!

Um... I dont think you can compare cars from totally different categories.

Lets say Skoda Fabia for example.. I live in country which is the origin of that car, so i know what people complain about. I didnt hear anyone saying its crap, they only say it has got too stiff suspension for such a car.

    True

He may complain that american car haters are arrogant hypocrite, but has a real hard on for try to compare vehicles of different categories and then insisting its fair to do so.

i disagree with the suv part, if a full size pickup truck can get around Europe, then a full size SUV most certainly can (other then possibly the excursion, which there are even some american roads it won't fit on it's so big)

There are Excursions existing in Europe too, most of them are registered as trucks though.

The only thing I've gathered from this thread is that every car ever is actually a crock of shit.

Excursions are built on an f-250 chassis. They're really just an inclosed crew cab short bed.
They are trucks. People that though they were a car are the people who killed it. :(

My uncle has three Oldsmobiles and a Pontiac GTO. They are TOTALLY not crap! His Olds 442 can do 10 mph and feel like it's doing 110, thanks to its jittery transmission!

They're expensive to buy and own. A used 2009 Chevrolet Suburban cost around 132.000 USD in Norway. So what's the point of purchase/buying a Suburban if you could get a brand New BMW, Mercedes or Audi for the same price?

Also...... we don’t hate American cars :) Nothing draws more attention than a old American car :3 it’s like seeing a Bugatti or a Ferrari

because some people need the SPACE in a suburban or ford expedition and such, can you seat 8-9 people in a brand New BMW, Mercedes or Audi? no, you can't(at least not safely, legally, or comfortably).

If you happen to be a family of 8 or 9 people, then I don't think they would buy an SUV, because those extra seats often take up all of the luggage space. So that family will probably go and buy a Mercedes Sprinter or something of that nature.

not really, my family is a family of 8, we own a ford expedition (it doesn't take as much luggage space as people may think :/ especially if you get the EL Version of the expedition)

    I'm with him.

My family have a mitsibushi shogun. We bought it because we were a family of 7 people + a pram and any luggage we needed. We looked at tons of regular 7 seater cars, not one of them had enough room for the very smallest of collapsible prams or any luggage at all. The shogun does.

We no longer need a pram though and don't go anywhere as 7 people often anymore. Plus I now have my own car, stepdad has his car, brother is learning to drive soon. Downsizing the shogun over the summer and on the very very rare occasion we go somewhere as 6 or 7 people we will just take 2 cars.

The only alternatives to the shogun at the time were pretty much a ford transit.
