So I have situation were I forgot that 3dr gen reyzen needs a dedicated gpu, because of the lot of recent stuff that happened in past week so was looking for a cheap gpu under 50 dollars. I found some potential candidates for it problem I have x570 motherboard and CPU I have supports pcie 4.0 what I need to know if the CPU would be backwards compatible with pcie 2.0 if anyone knows thanks And you might be wondering why I did it this way upgrade ability so I can upgrade to the RTX 2070 when Xmas comes around lol And I did try looking it up I could get a good answer or clear one lol
As far as I know all the old graphics cards will work in the pcie 4 slot since it hasn't changed in shape, it just has more bandwith. Buy whatever you can find for under 50$, such as GTX 780s or if you're lucky some GTX 960s. You'll be fine with one of the two cards if you'll change it on Christmas.
Thanks for responding I appreciate it so much it just super hard to think about lately were lots of stuff just happened in the past week thanks
Pcie 4.0 (and even 5.0 not that you'll see it any time soon) is fully backwards compatible, pcie 1.0 cards are fully forwards compatible. It will just run at the lowest common speed. So a 2.0 card in a 4.0 slot or a 2.0 slot with a 4.0 card inserted will both just run on pcie 2.0 mode. A 50 dollar pcie 2.0, that's not going to be great. But it's of course a lot better than not having a GPU at all until Christmas. It'll work and get you going
Well you say you are looking for GPU's under $50, assuming your profile says you are from Nova Scotia, I assume $50 Canadian, and as a Brit, what I know is that for £50 you can get a decent array of GPU's on the used market. However I don't know what the used GPU market is like in Canada, but as said above, older gen GTX's are the best option, but always have a look for cheaper Radeon GPU's too - I'm looking as i'm typing this, and will edit with anything I find, and then, you could possibly see what they are priced at where you are. Edit: As an example for just over £50 (Which I know is more than $50) you can get good GTX960's and certainly on eBay there are a lot of options.
Thanks everyone I'm all good now got gt 730 for now but and the computer booted up good every thing works good. Now dose anyone no how to transfer all of steam app games and workshop with out stressing out the HDD because I used my old HDD from my laptop that's has 750 GB of games and misc, I don't want to re download every thing because I don't have unlimited internet and I'm not near anywhere to ge it. like apps or tips because what I'm going to do is a rest of Windows a reinstall of the OS plz and thanks
Buy a Sata to usb adapter and copy the game folders where you'll want them to be. If the final destination is different from C: follow those small steps: Create a folder called "Games" to make things nice and tidy. In that folder create another folder called "SteamLibrary" (without "). Then tell Steam that that specific folder will be the games download folder: in the Steam app click "Steam" in the upper left corner, then "Downloads" and in "Content Libraries" select D:/Games/SteamLibrary. After that, close Steam, open the SteamLibrary folder in the disk D: and in "steamapps" create another folder called "common". In this last folder you'll copy all your game folders from your HDD (also found in C:/Programs (x86)/Steam/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common). When you've finished that, open Steam, in your games library select the games you moved to that folder and click "Install": choose as your download destination the path "D:/Games/SteamLibrary". Steam will discover all your game files if you've followed this correctly. Repeat the install process with all your games. If you need a video consider watching this: Also: you won't be able to play basically anything with that GPU...
