Right now, 3rd gen Ryzen is pumping out incredible chips for the price. Basically, AMD has Intel reeling and Intel has yet to respond. Intel still has the top spot in terms of raw top dollar performance however.
AMD's specialty has always been performance per dollar. However, Zen2 (the 7nm Ryzen CPUs) is more than that. It is also incredibly energy efficient. Having an 8-core, 16-thread CPU with a TDP of only 65W (Ryzen 7 3700X) is insane. Honestly, this tells me there is going to be some Intel-killing laptop chips from AMD coming in the not so distant future. The lower TDP also means less heat, which means cheaper to cool. Ryzen's stock cooler is even good enough for gaming, which could never be said for Intel's.
maybe find a used xeon that is old, although getting the mobo is a hassle, i'd go with an older gen ryzen like ryzen 2000 because a 2700x currently is 190$
well for beamng a lot of threads' cores are good, so maybe idk my cousin runs a 10 core xeon and i can spawn a couple of cars
I can spawn a couple cars on an Intel atom chip. a couple means two, so that's not exactly impressive.
Beamng is CPU heavy. Aren't Server CPUs not meant for gaming? I know the silicon they use is a higher grade and overall more reliable but I think what most people are getting at is if you get a ryzen 5 you won't need to upgrade anytime soon. It will work for multiple games and software real nice for the next 5-10 years bare minimum unless APUs or that quantum chip really kicks off, if it don't I can see this gen ryzens not dropping in value much
Can confirm. My Ryzen 7 3700X made my older i7 feel like a slow pile of garbage. Ryzen is the true successor to the Phenom II IMO (we all know that FX was just horrible lol).
I'm just gonna play the devil's advocate here. Intel has a few really nice chips out there right now. the i5-9600k is an excellent CPU for the price, and the i7-9700k is a really fast chip. if you want speed, then the i9-9900k is the king of CPUs right now. I mean, the i7 and i9 are fairly expensive compared to AMD for perf per dollar, but that i5 is right there with the ryzen chips. Team blue just needs more chips like that spread out more through the price points and they will have their answer to Ryzen gen 3.
Yep and this kind of competition is good for the market. So, supporting AMD is still good even if Intel does catch up. I just hope to not see another FX-level screw up on AMD's part. That caused quite the CPU stagnation.
