The '89 Pessima's numbers seem the least accurate. A reliable, durable and appealing Japanese sadan from '89 shouldn't have as few axamples as it does- but I have a theory as to why it's so low.

Traffic in career mode isn't going to be based on the same 3 or 4 cars- but rather, whenever a new car spawns in, it'll be determined by the map and the populaion of the car. Cars with more population and cars on a certain map would spawn more frequently. I.E. D15 is more frequent on Utah than in Italy- and the D15 V8 4WD would be more frequent than, say, the Classic.

either that, or the AWD versions were some kind of rare prototype thing.

Old Japanese sedans weren't too rust-proof, and there was a lot of wear involved over a 30-year span.

Given that you seem to agree that there is Gavril Europe, here's another primitive quasi-poll:

If you think Bruckell has an European division, like Gavril Europe, vote Agree.

If you think there is no Bruckell Europe, but they own European brands, vote Like.

If you think there's no Bruckell in Europe, vote Informative.

(@zestyfolfdude , you may wanna change your vote).

I'm on-and-off looking at getting into modding, and was actually planning on releasing a hastily "Europeanized" Bruckell LeGran with orange rear signals and more emphasis on turbo I4s for sports models. (The Wendover when it comes out might fit this better with independent rear suspension, but it's a size class higher.)

That wouldn't happen. The LeGran is too cheaply-made for its size to succeed in Europe, and such "sport" versions wouldn't sell.

My idea is that Gavril and Bruckell are rivals not only in the US, but also in Europe, like Ford and Opel/Vauxhall. Gavril was already popular before WWII, but Bruckell had a rougher start and, like Vauxhall in real life, wasn't that much of a force until the 1960s.

Just like in the States, Gavril makes more sophisticated and reliable cars, but Bruckell has the edge in pricing and innovative concepts.

If you want to make a european Gavril subsidiary you have to think of a european brand that is more like Vauxhall and/or Opel.

    OK, time for another poll.

If you think there is a Gavril Europe (like Ford Europe), vote Like.

If you think there is no Gavril Europe, but the company has European subsidiaries (like Opel/Vauxhall), vote Agree.

If you think there is no AMM (Gavril's parent company) presence in Europe, vote Informative.

AMM is pretty GM/Ford like, what about Chrysler?
    That's where Colburn comes in.

Colburn, founded in 1906 but not reaching production until 1909, began making mid and high price range motor cars, and in 1927 took ailing car-making-duo Woods (Fictional Canadian car maker, pioneered the american subcompact and makes a lot of 4WD cars) and Commodore (Akin to Dodge/Plymouth, ran by brother Mitchell and sister Lia Commodore, now making performance cars but also a range of other things.)
THE REST OF THIS IS WIP AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE
"Since these [EXPLATIVE EXPUNGED] wanna tussle, they've got a war on their hands." -Quote from DMC's outspoken president Callumn Whittaker, who served from 1959-1991.
DMC, which had no sub-brands, was created by the merger of Kaff (akin to Nash) and Streiter (Akin to Hudson, name subject to change) in 1956. Making a wide range of vehicles, DMC is the only Automaker to settle and stay in Detroit, Michigan, while other makers like Colburn have moved to Belasco.
Both Colburn and Gavril attempted to buy the company in the 70s, which would save it from financial trouble but also mean that it wouldn't be independent, and when DMC didn't bite, well, Gavril took it especially bad.
Gavril attempted, by any means, to rip profits from DMC by spinning out more and more compacts. Never worked, and Gavril nearly went broke until they introduced the new Grand Marshal in the early 80s.

I'm banking on Bruckell either being a sub-brand of a different motor manufacturer, or Bruckell itself being it's own brand (Like Chevy)

I was mostly going off the fact that some Chryslers were sold in Europe in the 1980s, including both not-very-good "near-luxury" cars and sports versions of same.

    3rd corporation, that is.

So my take on the Colburn situation is that:
    - Commodore is the lowest-level brand, kinda like modern Dodge,
    - Woods is the midrange one (DeSoto/Chrysler),
    - Colburn is the premium brand (Chrysler/Imperial)
    Am I right?

    Notes on DMC:

    1. I don't think Belasco is a good home for the auto industry. Too far from the rest of US industry, from the suppliers, or from the East Coast.

    2. DMC is too close to AMC, and there is an actual DMC (DeLorean Motor Company).

    3. By the 1980s, fullsizes were not significant enough to save an entire company.

    4. Got any specifics on what made DMC survive and AMC fail?

DMC survived due to differing market tastes and better engineering, the Prophet (Gremlin) was incredibly cheap to make and was produced until 1993, the Scout (pacer) was light, aerodynamic, and very fuel efficient for its time, other stuff like that. I said Belasco just to throw it out there. Woods is an independent manufacturer, splitting from Colburn in 1962 and that’s when they moved to Canada.

1960s America wasn't the place for going independent. In fact, that was around the time when independents like Packard or Studebaker were dying out.

The fact that a car is cheap is not everything (see: Yugo), and fuel efficiency might, at best, have the brand do well only until the early 80s or so.

It's hard to create such lore basing on 8 manufacturers where most of them (except Gavril and Ibishu) have 1-3 models so far. Right now most cars that are in game don't have any competitors.

I created this simple chart so you can see what I mean.
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JPufE-R5joglDoZHqzIL9m3BNKbwDzIeiZv36LGqszY/edit?usp=sharing

So in my opinion best way to do it is start with car makers we have right now, fill gaps and then make new car manufacturers.

Also please leave things like "X got bankrupt/sell out to Y" for your fictional manufacturers or for pre war stories. We need more brands that would eventually compete with each other.

I don't think we need that many existing brands. In a game like Beam we need realism first and foremost.
