I just learned how much the president of my university made last year. While we are all struggling to pay tuition and the financial aid department is telling us to take a hike if we have any issues, the various higher ups each make more money a year than most of us probably will in 20... Makes you wonder...

The vice chancellor at the uni I graduated from made £295,000 in 2018 (incl. all benefits [incl. pension] [£242k basic salary]).

Total staff costs for the year were £85,726,000 (290x Vice Chancellors pay check).
Total income of the university was £152,296,000 (516x Vice Chancellors pay check).
    Total debt was £64,735,000
    Operating Surplus was £984,000

If it was a bigger UK university, I think the pay would make more sense to me. But for a small university like the one I went to, it is perhaps a little bit much, but not too outrageously so. Obviously there is a lot of responsibility held by that position, and therefore it should pay well.

I would be okay if the president of my University made that little... Presidents of private universities in the US regularly walk away with millions USD per year.

Ah, not quite so bad over here I guess: https://www.theguardian.com/education/2019/feb/12/vice-chancellors-pay-universities-england-2017-18

Its worth noting that the above article does have some level of political spin included. But its linked with the intent of showing that many people are not happy with the level of pay in the UK despite it being much lower than millions.

The air is thick with the smell of smoke, the lights are hazy, and it sounds like a warzone outside. Happy Bonfire Night everyone!

For those living outside of the UK, you can loop the following video for 4 hours to gain the authentic experience of hearing constant fireworks, but never actually seeing any xD

Unfortunately the video doesn't quite capture the non-stop background explosions, only the nearby ones.

With my school having a board about Baroque art hanging on the corridor, I'm thinking of printing this out and putting it among the paintings.

Mad props to anyone who gets it.

Isn't that cover art to some album? I know I have seen that image before but can't remember where.

In school this week we have to design a car rim for Mechanics of Materials and talked about ICE engine internals in both Dynamics and Thermodynamics. I feel the need to play Automation now.

Also, last week there was an event in the Civil Engineering department which involved playing Cities Skylines. I didn't think videogames would be so relevant to my education.

i need some maxima nerds up in here
i found a nice maxima example for 1.6K. it has one dent on the bumper, 0 rust (Cali car) has 200K miles. 6 speed. It's an 02, so it uses the 350Z DE motor.
i want to HR swap it. my main question is:
would it be best to drop the whole motor and take the HR engine and plop it in (uses nearly all the same parts as the 350Z) or should i just put HR heads on a DE block. That, from what i have read, requires a lot more knowledge and machinery.

preferably Maxima owners, what's best? (I plan on posting this onto an actual Maxima forum, but not know)

I haven’t a clue, especially at over 8 grand. I’d be surprised if it actually sold for much over 5 or 6.

I used to listen to Rush a lot. Here's what they sound like at their best - they are obviously talented but still managed to put out loads of schlock between 1984 and 2002:

Long story short, one thing led to another, and now I find myself more interested in new wave, goth and industrial. One of my favorites is Ministry (up until around 1990, when they inexplicably became a metal band):

...and a more recent example, Boy Harsher:

Now I'm trying to make that kind of music, and I am realizing just how much Rush there still is in me. Thanks to Rush, I ended up forgetting that less sometimes really is more, and that's why most of what I make sounds like shit (not to mention the fact that all the while, I am wrangling the laughably inadequate Linux Multi Media Studio) :p

Hey guys, I haven't really been "active" in these forums since around 2017. Since then I've got my driver's permit and became a furry degenerate. What should I know has changed about the forums?
    ---------
EDIT: I've made mods since then and have been playing the game so I guess you could say I was active but idk
