I think that you very significantly underestimate the resistance value of even modest trees: Even modest trees weight a lot. Carry some larger wood trunk pieces to get a feeling for it. Now imagine that piece of wood being thrown at you with 100 km/h and tell me again it is no issue. Trees tend to be rooted.... so the trunk wont give in much or even at all. You will not fell it... you will chop it off.... by overcoming the entirety of the woods structural integrity. That is a lot of stopping power.... At the speeds car tend to move, the tree has literally no time to bend in..... instead this resistance will be added to the severity of the impact. Cars tend to hit trees near the ground.... your leverage is at the minimum while the roots grant maximum resistance there. Trees by all means and accounts counts as a pale impact. This means maximum penetration power as all of the force is concentrated in a small area. In english.... hitting anything like an even small but proper tree will most likely cause very significant damage to your car and most likely even yourself. Even if you manage to chop it off, the upper part of the tree is now free floating... aiming cleanly at your windshield which will certainly not stop such an impact. That is not to say that you cant chop of a tree with a car..... after all the destructive potential of at least a metric ton of metal moving at speed is widely underestimated. I am just saying that you will most likely not fondly remember it, assuming you survive.
I'm not sure about oak trees and young/small trees, but I have seen a car crash into a palm tree. The palm tree didn't do much* damage to the car and fell right over. That being said, palm trees don't have roots that spread out much, so I would expect that it doesn't take much to knock them over. *The car was probably totaled because the radiator support was bent, along with a small bend in the roof/cracked windshield, but I don't think the airbags went off. The car was still drivable but was leaking coolant of course.
Speaking of trees, I think having destructible trees in BeamNG.Drive would be pretty cool. I don't want them in the level immediately when you spawn the level, but I would be like to be able to spawn them from the vehicle menu.
I'm just desperately waiting for the Burnside to get 4 barrel carb options for the base V8, which would have be era-appropriate as a "power pack" option.
Okay, I just checked the devblog and there hasn't been anything new on it yet since Nov 14, 2019. I'm hoping that the devs will post something new about this upcoming update soon. By the way, I have a question. Do you think that Small Island USA will get an update in this upcoming update? You can explain why you think or don't think that the map is getting an update. [By the way, if you want to, you can check out the (my thoughts on copyright) thread in off-topic if you want.]
And what about the Moonhawk only having two engines? It needs two small-blocks (one in the high 200s, another in the low 300s), a 400+ci big block, maybe an older version of the LeGran V6 and a ~400 ci big block. Possibly a V8 diesel, too.
Yeah bit off topic but I grew up with that car ! ( not the digital dash version if you remember my personal mod )
Heh, when I was 10, at home we had the last version of Z31 when it was new. That's a facelift further from the one around that ^ tree. Niiice memories...
Yeah... I crashed a few cars too unfortunately... but since motorcycling I definitely learned about responsibility ! OKAY LET'S STAY ON TOPIC NOW ! I wonder if there is going to be a new car in the update after all or not
Judging by the fact that we know the next car will not be the Wendover, we have literally no information on the car that's coming before it, and we know the remastered D-Series/Roamer/H-Series is coming soon, at this point I am absolutely sure that there will not be a new car in the next update.
yeah i agree i would love to see atleast something, we havent gotten a new car in a bit, but maybe i am being spoiled
We got multiple big surprises in 0.17, so I'm not going to say "definetly no car". But it would be a surprise if we do since we haven't heard anything about it yet and between the Hopper and Gavril updates we might get a fair amount of vehicle content anyway.
I did the same thing and said that I felt like there wasn't going to be a car in this upcoming update back in November and someone (who's name I'm not mentioning) said otherwise. Honestly, I heard nothing from the devs about a new car yet. We'll just have to see whether or not a new car comes out in this update. Well, we did get the Gavril Bluebuck in the last update, though that update did come out back in August which was at least 3 or 4 months ago. You make a very good point there.
So, how many updates there been? tdev said 11th Dec 2018 this: "We planned 3 big updates next year, but we don't know what or when ourselves." https://www.beamng.com/threads/where-are-we-going.59239/page-25#post-969905 0.16 and 0.17 counts as two big updates, so 0.18 at least was planned for this year, if there are no big issues preventing that of course. Hence my guess there being an update by 16th of this month could be solid, but you never know, devs are pretty good at surprising.
