In case anyone cares, even the base 1957 Piccolina is a hot rod compared to the 1950s Fiat 500/600 (this is closer to the 600) it's based on. The 1958 Fiat 600 had 22hp, 29 lb-ft, a top speed of 60mph, and a 0-50 time of 26 seconds according to a 1958 issue of Mechanix Illustrated. In comparison, the '58 Beetle had 36hp and hit 50mph in 22.5 seconds with a top speed of 68mph.

The 1957 Piccolina 110 has 34hp and a 0-60 time of 19.9 seconds. Doesn't seem to add up to the contemporary real world vehicles.

The Devs took some liberties with the performance of this car, clearly! :)

I believe they took some liberties because if it was 100% true to life it would be horrendously painful to drive, iirc.

IIRC they tried it but the factory configs were too slow. Personally I like underpowered cars, it would've been nice to at least give the base model something closer to the historical counterparts.

especially considering the people who don't care about accuracy, and would rather just drive fast cars, will not bother with the base models anyway. the only time i really mess around with lower-trim versions of cars is when i play with the wheel, or if i'm just cruising around.

the first car i spawned up in .17 was the base 4 door I6 Bluebuck.
i always use the base models of cars.
yeah- i would also appreciate it if the Piccolina did have more historically accurate figures- but its not necessary. its already very slow.

    -bump-

Could we perhaps get "eyelid" pieces for the headlights, or maybe they can be available as an additional accessory for the high-trim 130 models?

Another suggestion I have is optional two-tone paint. I know somebody did that as a mod, but it would still be nice to have as official content in-game. :)

Even the displacement of the piccolina is wierd: the 1100 cc car at the time was (unsurprisingly) the Fiat 1100/103, which has similar power and speed figures of the piccolina. mabye it comes from another world where Fiat followed the ideas of Dante Giacosa for a mid-low class family car with rwd and air cooling. the first prototypes for the Fiat 600 resemble a lot more the piccolina (boy that's a stupid name) than the final product as they are air cooled (the 600 is water cooled), boxer 4 with 1000 cc (633 cc for the 600) of displacement. (yes, in italy at the time an 1100 cc 30-40 horsepower car was considered mid-low class car: a mid-high car, like the alfa romeo giulietta had a 1300 cc angine)
the prototypes i put below this post, as you can see, are differnt: the first one is much closer to the 600's actual release and was made in 1954 and had no engine. the other 2 are dated 1951 and have the caratteristics i mentioned above

Given that the FIAT 600 predates the ZAZ 960 by a half a decade, and that Autobello is a fictional italian brand... No, just no. :p

Seems to me that the power train is based on the vw beetle? an air cooled flat 4, rear engine, available in 1200, 1300, and 1600 cc variants (very similar to autobello). A bunch of the styling cues on the autobello also appear on vw beetles, and the suspension variants are also true to the beetle. early models had torsion suspension front and rear, while later models had torsion rears and mcpherson struts (coilovers) up front. Obviously the styling of the piccolina takes many cues from fiat and other cars, but I think its would be most fair to compare this car to the bug, given its suspension, weight, power, and options similarities.

    What are y'alls thoughts?

it's confirmed this car is absed off of both the Fiat soemthingsomething-00 and VW beetle. However, the devs always add in a bit of their own inspiration.

    Definitely a mix of both.

In terms of size and, most importantly, construction-wise (unibody, with flush, integrated fenders) the Piccolina is closer to the 600, though. Mechanical layout is where the VW inspiration is more evident.

I read somewhere (I am probably very wrong but here we go) that you cannot drive a wheel that's got torsion beam suspension, and this thing has it all round.
Is this some weird black magic trickery or am I just completely stupid?

That doesn't sound right. My 4x4 Suburban has torsion bars in the front. A torsion beam is just a different type of spring that can actually be adjusted.

That's a really cool thing to notice. I assumed it was accurate, but it makes sense. Nobody really cares about slower cars. At least not the majority of 15 year olds that come into the game. That also leaves it wide open for someone like yourself to go ahead and fix it with a mod

Could have something to do with being lighter than a Beetle with almost the same power. I would say gears but it can do 70+ in the top end IIRC.
