My idea is if you join forums maybe you have to answer a few car or beamng questions. or some way to stop those scammers the ones who most 100s of scam posts,
There just needs to be a limit on new users. No more than x # threads per Y unit time until they reach a certain age or account reputation.
How a new account spamming tons of messages in a foreign language as fast as possible isn't able to be automatically stopped is beyond me.
We already the available counter-measures in place to prevent them, but no solution will ever be 100% blocking. It's not an easy thing to solve without having a large number of false-positive triggers.
The most recent scam spam I found quite ridiculous because all those universities are in or near the Greater Toronto Area, and also I live in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area).
We kind of do something similar, but I'm not going into details for obvious reasons. Please refrain from giving suggestions on the topic. Not because we don't want to listen, but because you are not aware of what options are applicable/available or not, so it's mostly a time waster..
Simply, phrase-check is a basic functionality in the majority of forum. But I'm not going to explain you the criteria the check is applied here. You can avoid providing suggestions on the topic, as you don't obviously know what other types of counter-measures we have or can have. All you need to know is that we already apply the available ones. edit: english
The only thing I'm wondering is, why doesn't the forum automatically 'quarantine' someone who's posting a topic every few minutes?
Yeah I was wondering that too, but if we had a bot doing it, but again that would have limitations put on it and its not possible at the moment to have that on a forum, I should know I have had to deal with a forum with something like 25,000 members being flooded with spam before and I had to find the accounts get them open in new tabs and then ban each one but it was like a bot was creating accounts... Okay I get what your saying with the quarantine, a good way to handle that would be increase the time delay between thread creation from what was it about 15 to 60 seconds? Okay lets assume you had 15 spam bots on this server with a 15 second delay between posts, then 20, then 30, then a 60 second delay between posts going up Time examples here: 15 seconds: so thats 4 posts a minute per 1 spam bot, now take that to 15 spam bots thats 60 posts a minute 20 seconds: so thats 3 posts a minute per 1 spam bot, now take that to 15 spam bots thats 45 posts a minute 30 seconds: so thats 2 posts a minute per 1 spam bot, now take that to 15 spam bots thats 30 posts a minute 60 seconds: so thats 1 posts a minute per 1 spam bot, now take that to 15 spam bots thats 15 posts a minute Those are a time example of a breakdown above now lets say the spam attack is over 15 minutes which is generally the time required for the admins to react: so that's 60 posts a minute per 1 spam bot, now take that to 15 spam bots thats 900 posts in 15 minutes so that's 45 posts a minute per 1 spam bot, now take that to 15 spam bots thats 675 posts in 15 minutes so that's 30 posts a minute per 1 spam bot, now take that to 15 spam bots thats 450 posts in 15 minutes so that's 15 posts a minute per 1 spam bot, now take that to 15 spam bots thats 225 posts in 15 minutes It depends on the cooldown period between posts I have done a 15 minute example, above I wont put in the others since you can multiply them out from there, but I think increasing the cooldown time for post creation is the answer say like 2 minutes per thread would be a smart move to stop spammers in their tracks on here, I am just saying as an example it means their posts can be slowed down between thread creation
Spammers are an unfortunate reality on a global network we call the internet. I personally think the BeamNG staff are doing a fine job as is with dealing with it. I've seen many forums that were far worse off, and some of them had more resources too. I have some idea of the kind of things that they can do for anti-spam. I also know that majority of attempts to spam end up failing, but some eventually slip through. That's just how it goes. I know from personal experience with dealing with spam on other forums.
Ever since they started happening, I have had questions about these university scam spambots. Like these for example. 1. Why did I first notice them when the Hong Kong protests first broke out? 2. Who are they? 3. What are they trying to accomplish?
They probably are. If someone wants to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer, professor, psychologist, etc and they need university in order to fulfill their career. These threads aren't doing jack to promote it.
At the time of this message, there's a spam bot doing just that on the forums. The least we can do is report the threads and the account. --- Post updated --- I may as well leave this here for everyone to see once the moderators remove everything pertaining to the bot account in a few hours from now. This is a good example of the so-called "fake diploma forum spammer" that occurred on the forums several times in the past: And I found this YouTube video talking about the issue too. It seems this kind of spam is not limited to the BeamNG forums:
Cant you just put any scam accounts on a blacklist and they'll be hidden, also, if the titles of post is too similar and too frequent, it can be auto blocked all posts of his.
