    OLD POST

    1. Optimization is terrible. The main reason for this is that the whole city is all one mesh. And this is really noticeable on lower end PC's. Because the buildings are all one mesh, if you drive closer to the city, it has to be loaded all at once.

    2. Layout needs an overhaul.
The racetrack takes so much space in this map, and because of that...
    screenshot_2020-04-13_12-56-26.png
(it's so massive, it could be in a separate map)

    The suburban area is tiny,
    screenshot_2020-04-13_12-56-51.png

This is how small the Belasco city is.
    screenshot_2020-04-13_12-57-09.png

There is a lot of unused land
    screenshot_2020-04-13_12-57-46.png screenshot_2020-04-13_13-00-09.png screenshot_2020-04-13_13-07-06.png

This island is completely empty, why is there a bridge to it then?
    screenshot_2020-04-13_12-58-53.png

Also the dead ends just make the map feel unfinished
    screenshot_2020-04-13_13-08-02.png screenshot_2020-04-13_13-09-07.png screenshot_2020-04-13_13-08-51.png screenshot_2020-04-13_13-09-38.png

Thanks to all of this, it's hard to enjoy this map. I hope it's not going to stay in the state that it's currently in.

i try to like it, but it runs awfully, (worse than italy) feels very cramped, and all the little details that make a city map great, like parking garages you can explore, are somewhat lacking. the map needs a proper overhaul in the near future

Fun fact: if Belasco has the population density of San Francisco, it has 15k inhabiatants at best.

We need a proper urban map in the game.

Not necessarily a big city, it can just be a small town of a more realistic size with a proper suburbia.

Kind of harsh worded, but ok.

This is being actually being adjusted. I think it should be there in the next major update or so.

This is how the map layout is. Partially city, partially race-track, with a high-way and suburban areas around.

Those are areas outside of the map itself (ie. extents). Cannot be used, they are just scenery/background meshes.

Any better ideas on how to improve them?

It was closed originally. People asked it to open it, even if it just turns around, so we did :)

    Cheers

Well, the hills are fun, especially when you put traffic in what I call "maniac driver mode" and sit back and watch the craziness.

That part of the level is already out of the map itself, we cannot add content there.

i have the same common feelings, the map is not well optimized for smaller pc's, the buildings are just one single entity, it feels cramped.
but, it has its one good thing. this map did raise the bar for the quality standards.

This is strange to read, I get much better performance on WCUSA than on Italy, especially when using traffic.
I just hope for WCUSA to get proper night lighting at some stage, other than that I guess I'm the only one that likes it?

My main hope for WCUSA is that if you put AI on random in the racetrack, they go around one route continually, I feel like there's no point in a racetrack if you can't race on it.
Yes, yes, I know there's script AI.

You're not the only one. I really like it, but there are some issues with it.

As a result, anything outside the track feels like it's a shadow of what it could be.

I like WCU. It's got a lot of variety that other maps lack. I didn't like it at first but it's really grown on me. The race track is a ton of fun and there's nothing else like it on any other map, plus you get a drag strip and off road circuit. The city layout is varied and lots of fun. I love setting up crashes at some intersections and screaming down the big hill doing my best not to lose control. The narrow streets are a great place to test your skills at hauling with the semi or avoiding traffic and police. The canal is also awesome for setting up jumps and wrecks. The city looks nice, and the scenery is great. The looping bridge reminds me of midtown madness 2, which is one of my favorite childhood games. I personally see no areas the map could reasonably be improved in. One thing I would like to see, but will probably never happen, is trains on the elevated track through the city. They don't have to be jbeamed or anything, just some objects that move through the level. It would add some sense of life to the city at least.

I don't think it's bad, but I think it needs a huge update eventually. By the way, @Srockzz said that this map was the jack of all trades. I really wonder what he would think of this thread.

I do like it but it feels cramped. Road blockades and the lack of highway makes it feel less free for me.

Would it be possible to add a highway exit that goes under the map with a tunnel, and loops back to the other end of the highway, kind of like how it works in Utah?
That way we'd have twice the lenght of the current highway, with one half under the map. I feel like it would be a great addition.
Of course, this is just a suggestion.

And it would look like this in the tunnel:
