Hey Guys, I'd like to throw a few things out there that I've experienced since purchasing Drive and actually playing it for a while. First off, thanks to movies and games I noticed I have ZERO respect for speed/airtime and what that could do to a car. I think we all imagine jumping 30 feet into the air without any ill effects. The reality is, those kinds of forces ruin most street cars. It's been eye opening, to see what happens when you lose control at 60 MPH, lightly glance off a tree with your rear end and roll over 3 times before slamming into another tree. Yes, in real life you wold have died there. But not in BeamNG's Drive. There you get to see what happens when a car meets something solid without the expensive paperwork. And it's made me drive my real car so much more carefully. I respect the speed now. On a related note, I spent most of my time trying to rally drive in the Ibishu Covet and I learned pretty quickly I couldn't brake and turn at the same time. It became clear that braking had to happen 100% before the turn. I was even talking to a friend and said "The wheels will only do one thing at a time: turn or brake". I've never taken the time to study racing, so the idea was completely new to me. Then I was watching a YouTube video where a professional driver was teaching some noobs about cornering. One of the first things he said: "Your wheels can do only one thing at a time: turn or brake". The fact that a complete newbie learned a REAL LIFE lesson about driving cars without any real life training is astounding. I've played around with driving fast in GTA, having some fun in Dirt 3, and even spent some time with Gran Turismo back in the day. Drive is the first time I've actually had the feeling of driving, and the fact that real world physics have been converted into the game with such accuracy is nothing short of amazing. The word "impressed" doesn't really cover the emotion I have for the work you guys have done. Thanks.
I could not agree more with this post. I hate seeing NFS of Burnout fanboys on BeamNG's youtube videos going all "the cars are too squishy" or "the suspension is too stiff" or "[racing game] had these physics before, this isnt impressive!11!"
Comment I saw somewhere: this game sucks because if you barely touch something u loose and its too soft in real life it dosent happen need for speed is more realistic
I can't begin to imagine how someone could be that stupid. - - - Updated - - - People who look at the videos often think "the crashing looks sick, i want this!". But there's more to this game than crashing. There's engine simulation, car customization, transmission simulation, the driving/drifting, gears, and let's not forget the absolutely stunning graphics. No joke, this game looks like Far Cry 3.
After wrecking a couple thousand times, yes. Most definitely. If I were not in a game, roughly 8% of my accidents running the rally course would have been fatal. That's 160 lives of experience.
One of the fundamental things you learn when riding a motorcycle - In accident avoidance, you can swerve or you can brake. But you can't do both without eating pavement. Beamngrive is so amazing because they nail the little things.
is there any comparison between .drive and for example NFS or Forza or Gran Tourismo and/ or real life? would be very interersting. because all the .drive-fanboys here say nothing other than every other fanboy of every other simulation says: OUR game is the most realistic one. but why this? why beamng? (befor the bashing starts: of COURSE i know that .drive IS fantastically realistic - because i can somehow feel it and i think have a little feeling of physics - but how can you PROVE it?)
BeamNG is inherently better at fully simulating vehicles than any other game out there. It's not a matter of opinion. Nearly every other game uses a solid-body physics model. That means the entire vehicle reacts as one piece, rather than just the effected parts. i.e. you smash into a wall... you bounce off vs getting smashed and broken. Chassis twisting... torque on the engine... popped tires... broken suspension... pretty much all of these things are exclusive to BeamNG and RoR.
