When I got on BeamNG recently, I noticed that the backfire sound on the Cherrier 1.6L engine had changed. This is odd because it no longer sounds like the sharp crack that I had liked. It sounded more like a solid tone, sort of like an odd popping sound. I would be skeptical to call this a bug and not an updated sound if it didn't sound so out of place (especially with the anti-lag on the rally version), and I also noticed no sign of the exhaust being changed in the update announcements on steam. No idea if anyone else is having this problem, or if it's exclusive to my game files. If it is an issue with game file, I would like to know if there's any easy fix.

Here's a video just so you can confirm whether or not it is a universal thing. Just making sure I put in all the details, it was the 1.6L Cherrier engine. All that changed was the backfire. It changed from a sharp, crackling sound to more of a generic pop. Unfortunately I don't have video of the original sound.

Edit: Just went on BeamNG and can confirm it used to have the boxer 4 backfire sound and it changed to the same sounding backfire of an i4 in the game. I liked the old one (boxer) more so maybe I might think about modding it to have the old sound back.

That is correct, but a pretty stock 1.6 wouldn't normally backfire and overrun like that.

It has the tuned exhaust so you could hear more backfiring.

OK, fine. The volume is also off. I've done a volume fix but it will affect the event for any vehicle atm. Have requested code support to get some independant stuff working, but it's not a high priority atm.
