I find it crazy that the people here feel the urge to comfort and help, but the rest of the world might see just the title, and find that it's ironic that the husband was the safety inspector and laugh. It doesn't effect us until it's someone we know. Same applies to war, especially in other countries, and how we don't really think about it until it really effects us.

the thing is, anyone can fall down a flight of stairs, not a huge amount a safety inspector can do about that except point out a hilariously unsafe staircase but people fall down perfectly intact normal ones all the time. I watched a guy trip *down* a kerb once.

I've fallen up and down stairs. I have a scar all up my shin because I triped down a curb (kerb for Brits I guess) at my school and took most the skin off like a peel. *shudders* It didn't hurt but it looked messed up. D:

happened to me too. Fell down the concrete stairs in my schools football stadium during a fitness run in gym class. Took of a couple layers of skin from mid shin to ankle. About 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. I honestly don't know how there isn't a scar.

The story, if it is indeed real like you said, is very sad. The stairs themselves probably don't have the power to kill a person, but the brick wall does.

As for when you said people were calling 000, I have no idea what country that accident happened in.
It's surely not in the United States of America.

Just a heads up, before you go abroad, check what number the emergency services are :p I know an american who came off a bike down a country lane and dislocated his kneecap, had a mobile but had to call someone else to call him assistance because he didnt know the right number himself. For reference in the UK its 999 and most GSM networks will connect on 112, a small handful of handsets do seem to accept 911 now but this is not actually defined in any legislation and is actually attributed to incorrectly configured GSM towers (dad works with them and apparently alot default to diverting all 911 calls to the emergency services lines whereas in the UK they need reconfiguring to divert 112 and 999 instead, it appears sometimes the 911 entry isnt removed, regardless as it is not official you cannot rely on it)

He was just sharing an observation. That doesn't make him cruel. He has a point. People have specific compassion and it's interesting.

Knight, I feel so bad for the family and yourself, since you had to go through that experience. I probably wouldn't live through that, and I am glad you did.
