That funky looking facelift is actually a prototype of the 1203 made in 1957, 11 years before the start of production!!!

When that prototype was made the Škoda 1201 was still in production as the main commercial Škoda.

But the production of the 1203 got delayed and delayed over and over again. So in 1961 Škoda quickly released the 1202 and it expected that it would be made only for few years until the production of the 1203 would start in about 1963, in the end, it wasn't until 1973 that the production of the 1202 stopped completely.

That is the main reason why the 1203 seems to be so out of date for 1968. It was perfectly fine for 1958. In 1958 the 45 HP engine would have been more powerful than the engine used by VW in the Transporter and there was also the fact that originally 1.5-litre engine was planned for the 1203 sadly budget cuts meant that the 1203 would have to do with the old 1.2-litre 45hp engine from 1201 itself dating back to the 1930s Škoda Popular, it wasn't until the 80s that the 1203 received the much needed 1500cc engine still based on the old Popular engine which stayed with the 1203, by that point called TAZ 1500, until 1999, that interestingly means that the same basic model of the engine was made for 62 years during which its displacement grew from 1089cc to 1433cc and power from 30 to 57 HP. That if you'd ask me is quite an achievement.

I've funnily enough found a picture of one with a tow hitch, even though I don't know what sort of a masochist, except me, would want to drive the 1203 uphill with a trailer, but I have to say that I too would love to have a tow hitch on the 1203 just to have some fun in BeamNG.

That's cool. I totally wouldn't mind making the prototype if I had proper blueprints and detailed photos...it looks very cool.

The prototypes are definitely cool. Sadly I don't think there are any blueprints or detailed photos of the prototypes.

Although I know that out of the first five prototypes at least two probably survived to this date and those are:

the third prototype from 1957, this is actually the green one in the other photo, but since this seems to be a late 80s photo there is a chance that it got scraped.

and the fifth prototype from 1958, this one actually had the 1500cc engine

here is the original photo of the fifth prototype

Prototypes made after these first five looked much more like the final 1203

here is the first prototype of the new design from 1960

the second one from 1961 already looked almost like the final product including the taillights

The third and last prototype of the 1203 from 1962 was an ambulace

They truly are some of the cutest cars I know. My personal favourite is the 1961 prototype with its smiling fascia and the absolutely itsy-bitsy wing mirror, it wouldn't even be that hard to make since the body is identical to the standard 1203.

    Bug report:
The rear brakes are overheating when you changed the wheels and put the handbrake on(or jam the brakes while you are stopped), and the Skoda steel wheels(neither did the hubcaps or the tires) don't exist or other cars(in the 4-lug section,I know that), plus there is to much smoke that come out the exhaust pipe(except if the real car does that, then just skip this one). o_O

    Ideas:
Maybe you can make a ABS or a ESC or some 2/3-speed automatic transmission? (just like the lada, which got a Miramar 2-speed)you know, not for realistic, but for fun;).

I think you're sitting too low. Turn the camera around (right click) and look at the seat. Your head should be slightly above and in front of it.

Yes. Who said that 0, 0 is the correct position? If that was the case, there would be no setting of position. Set it up to your liking. I don't know why you'd dwell on having it at 0,0 if that's not ideal.
