I've been thinking that the D-Series would be cool with a stage three long block. I mean, 650 horsepower, and a redline at 8k rpm is pretty cool in general

Now that I think of it we need: Hoodstacks, more 8-lug rims dually and singles, body colored offroad bumpers, compound turbo kits on the diesel, maybe a second factory diesel like an I6 as a cheaper option as apposed to the V8 Diesel, and D45 chassis cab with rear lights mounted to the frame.

I definitely agree with this as well. I've even mentioned it before somewhere. But yeah, I've always wanted some proper "factory style" buckets. Also, I've always been kinda sad that the D-Series seemingly doesn't have 90s flare like the Ram did. It just feels like a mix between a Chevy and a Ford (yes I know that it was purposely styled that way). I just wish there was some more "radical styling"

    Ahem...
Yes, they're ripped directly from the Roamer. But they fit pretty damn well in the D-Series, and it's as close as you're going to get right now.

The tray at least is a vital part for the D-series (though I'd imagine they'd refer to it as a flatbed now that the existing one in-game has been renamed 'Off Road Flatbed').

but I do think that if we get anything Landcruiser-inspired, it's going to be derived from the Hopper.

A modification of a discussion from Discord:

I hope the D Series gets more Pre facelift parts (older chrome door handles, chrome trim, older looking dashboard) and bucket seats or at least headrests on the bench seats. Yes I have mention this multiple times in multiple places.

With the dashboard they could easily modify it. instead of starting from scratch.

    Here's a quick diagram I made up.

For the gauge cluster the developers could go for either separate circular gauges similar to the Squarebody chevs.

Or they could go for something similar to the mid 80's Bullnose F Series.

The headunit currently looks closer to an early 90's digital unit instead of a more analogue unit that you would find in an 80's truck. The HVAC controls are more 90's than 80's too.

and come to think of it, a good way to justify that is if they also made an '85 pre facelift for the van, and used the same interior parts.

Wait, what? When did the H-series get an official de-facelift?

Ah. I saw someone either modded or photoshopped that up in community screenshots, and I wondered if maybe it was real and brought over from Discord

I think that purely for perspective, it might be a good idea to look at the later 1987-1992(?) F-150, which closer matches the years of the D-Series. The bullnose was introduced for 1980, making it far too early for the purposes of D-Series reference material. This is what the dashboard of the 1987 (henceforth “the brick”) looks like:
    F8A77CE5-B7AC-4D00-9152-C28D8736EB8C.jpeg
    And here is the D-Series:
    47B075DE-1F60-4273-97FD-078AEA3D77B9.jpeg

As you can see, there is very little to no difference between the layouts of both dashboards. I would say redoing the interior to any major extent would be ill-advised, but there are some little things that could be done, like adding some chrome bevels to the instrument cluster, some fake wood, a cassette player, and perhaps some vinyl flooring. It’s already pretty much good to go, and I don’t think it needs a new instrument cluster or any significant revisions, just perhaps a few alterations here and there. I think Ktheminecraftfan’s ideas are mostly correct, but maybe just need to be toned down slightly so that the product isn’t a 1979 D-Series.

The one thing that the pre-facelift would be better off with, now to think of it, would be some carbureted engine options. Ford’s 302 wasn’t EFI until 1987, and the 351 wasn’t until well after then. I believe that the C-10 is similar. Just chuck the carburetor from the Barstow/Moonhawk on the 5.5 and it’s just one more little realism detail.

Oh god, I’m becoming one of the realism nuts. Oh boy.

I think we need the Barstow's engine in the pre facelift. It should be modified for a 1980s truck, maybe having single point EFI in later variants. It is very unrealistic to have an OHC V8 in a pre-2000 pickup, and it would be realistic to see a heavily updated engine from the the 50s or 60s still in use by the mid 1990s and even later.

Ford was still using Windsors until 2002, and Chevy used Gen 1 small blocks (under the Vortec name) until 2003, so it definitely is possible that a 60s OHV V8 would be in use in 1985. Also, what about the mesh says that it’s an OHC engine, exactly? Belts? Timing covers?

The heads are massive and have covers for belts on them IIRC. The power curve is more representative of an OHC engine. I could be remembering wrong though.
    --- Post updated ---
I'm just quoting this post because it shows evidence of Gavril V8s having OHC too early.
