Hello there people of the forums!

I come here to announce my imminent return. It is now six years later, and just like the devs have come no closer to releasing the final version of the game I have come no closer to releasing my mod.

But I have aged 6 years, and I have finally gotten to the point in my life where working on this has become a form of procrastinating the things I'm really meant to be doing, and now I'm really making some good progress.

I have a form of the main body of the car in the game', with a sort of jank ass Jbeam structure for it, but I really have no idea what I am doing Jbeam wise and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for tutorials or write ups. I'm kind of having a hard time making heads and tails of how I'm meant to keep the car from flopping apart. Right now its essentially just a load of beams stringing together the nodes keeping them loosely in place but as soon as I attempt any suspension stuff the car just deforms like a papermache, like the surprisingly small wood chair I once sat on and broke at my grandparents' place and then hid in the cupboard as a kid.

After 6 years of pining after this car I swear I have the specs and technical detail and underworkings of the car embedded so deep into my skull I have to finish this otherwise I wasted all this part of my life just like the rest of it. Don't think I'll ever be able to afford one of these either so this will be the closest I'll probably ever get to owning one yay.

Alright fans here's some pics to keep your appetites quenched, the keen observer may notice some small differences between this version of the model and the one from my thread six years ago:

Here is a shitty picture of my model in the game:

Here it is with Jbeam on (a mess):

Here is my jbeam in NodeBeam Editor:

Alright that's that out of the way. I just want some tips and feedback. Please no suggestions for parts or mods or anything of the likes, and definitely no lore name suggestions. I am not going to listen to anyone else's ideas, I'm barely finishing it as is. Also before I even get this out I don't give anyone else permission to work on this car or share it somewhere else or use my model for another game.

Here's a link to a simplified version of the model on sketchfab I made for a friend I made researching the car, give me a like, I feed off of positive feedback: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/simca-1200s-bertone-coupe-m-morita-d3c1e67779794b14956bfa7d6b3e887a

Also I kid about the dig at the developers, I love that you guys are constantly updating and adding content, I have this game to blame for my love of cars and I have nothing but grattitude for the devs.

That being said I'm dead serious about the lore name suggestions, if someone even as much as talks about in lore names for the car I'm cancelling it.

You might be able to base it off of the miramar jbeam structure, and modify it a ton. The wiki isnt exactly helpful, you can learn more from asking others, and getting help on discord servers like MFD. Otherwise its looking pretty great so far, I'll be watching this thread for further progress on the mod.

As Spicy has said, looking a vanilla jbeam, including the node naming, is probably the way to go, although from looking at your pics you seem to have done that.

The next step would be the suspension, once again find a vanilla car with the same suspension layout as what you want, and observe how it's built.

I've got most of it based off of the autobello very loosely seeing as it is also rear engined, but honestly I guess I just gotta take a couple days and really dive deep into how they piece together the strengthening of the body. Rear it's trailing arm so it's about easy enough to use the autobello stuff but damn don't even get me started on the front transverse leaf suspension.

Got any pictures of how it's setup?

But if you build it like a double wishbone suspension, with the top wishbone being set-up using "L-Beams", so it acts both like the suspension arm, and as a leaf spring, that should work.

    It's this:

But then without the spring on the shock absorber, I have better pictures somewhere but heading to sleep rn so will look tomorrow. Essentially just an upper control arm and then the leaf spring acting as a lower control arm sort of. I was looking into how the leaf springs normally work in the game but it seems like theyre made using slide nodes in the middle which I don't think would work for me in this case?

The slidenode is to keep axle wrap under control, which isn't an issue with transverse leaf springs.

However looking at your image, since the spring seems fairly constrained where it's mounted to the chassis, the easiest way that would give good results might be to just make a standard double wishbone suspension, but instead of a spring, you'd use torsionbars on the lower arm, in a similar way to autobello.

This way the spring force would be related to the angle of the lower arm's angle, instead of the length of the spring beam.

    Hopefully that is clear enough.

I read your comment half asleep two days ago and thought that sounds like cheating the suspension, but now I've gone over it again and yea I might actually just do that, because I really have no idea what I'm doing and because it sounds like an actual good idea. It's not actually as constrained as it is in the photo there. I think that's from a guy in the UK who used the front suspension on a Fiat 126, but I can't find any pics on the internet of how the suspension fits together at all... Thanks rare car.

Other than thatt for updates I've got the body pretty decently stable right now, needs a bit more work but it's pretty good rn.

Yeah, the exact design would depend on exactly how it's set-up, but I still think that having a double wishbone suspension with L-Beams or TorsionBeams acting as springs on the lower arm is going to give you a decently accurate representation without being too complicated to setup.

The main part is defining the pivot point of the lower arms, if you either join them up near the middle, or where the leafs are held in place near the wheel well as in your pic.
