Amd 3900x or intel 9900k?

So i am looking at upgrading my cpu and motherboard. My 6700k has done well, but i want more cores.

Which chip will beamng prefere? Basically i want to be able to spawn as many cars as possible ideally at least 10 without lag.

I know the 9900k is 8c16t and the 3900x is 12c24t.

The 9900k is slightly cheaper at the moment. But im not sure which one to get.

What are your thoughts?

 

A lot of people will disagree, but I'd say the Intel chip as it's cheaper and delivers very solid performance. But here comes the wave of, "choose the amd chip!!!!11!!!!!!!11!!11" and they're right, at the moment amd is better(imo I like Intel better).
If you're on a tight budget, go with the intel chip, prices don't lie.
go with what you want, I can't dictate your decision.

You'll see that the prices of both CPUs are not much different in terms of price, about 50 bucks and AMD has better performance, as well as more headroom for overclocking if needed. When it comes to BeamNG, You will eventually find that the CPU is no longer the bottleneck, and the GPU is the part that struggles. With my r9 3900x and 2080, Beam automatically detects about 14 cars before it finds the physics simulation performance fall under the preferred threshold.

When it comes to PC parts, you'll save more money in the long run if you purchase a part that is overpowered that can last a long time, than a cheaper part that you replace in a year or two.

Long before that happens, at around 7-8 cars, I notice a decent FPS drop as the GPU is the part struggling to perform well (although I do run BeamNG at Ultra settings)

I decided to actually go with the i7 10700k simply because it was the cheapest option for me yesterday. i will also no longer need to upgrade my RAM! i should get about 8 cars without problems which is more than i currently can

 

@atv_123 has an amazing setup, its a 12 core mac pro 5.1 with a gtx 1080 ti. he can run 64 cars, and the bottleneck is the gpu, but he put that in, and you can put a more powerful one too. he uses bootcamp. a mac pro 5.1 is around $600, the 1080 ti is around $300.

Haha, thanks, while my computer is a beast in its own right, it's not really a setup I recommend for other people ESPECIALLY if you pay for your own electricity like I do

If you don't... then it's just about the most powerful computer you can attain for less than 1000 bucks... for certain applications that is.

My computer is a multithreading monster that is really only just getting caught up to by Threadripper recently... that is the only reason that this computer monsters Beam... basically because I have 24 threads and the CPU's are powerful enough to run 3 cars per thread... maybe more?

My GPU is actually a 1070... but they are close enough in performance, and the PCI slot in my computer is so old that it can't even use all the cards possible bandwidth even if it was hit with a heavy enough load (which 64 cars definitely do) so upgrading past the 1070 wouldn't even help me unfortunately (probably?).

The downside to my computer is that its single core performance pales in comparison to modern CPU's which is where 95% of programs lie. Beam normally does until you start trying to use cars like marbles. So, in most instances, my computer feels like a slightly downgraded modern gaming PC... it's only when I start getting into really stupid situations that my computer starts to shine... it just keeps having more and more and more cores to give... so even though my computer barely crests 140fps normally... it can keep that up until like... 12 cars? And usually above 60fps until about 32 cars... but then the GPU starts to lose its footing.

Now the only reason I have this setup is because when I got my job, they gave me a laptop to run my work simulations on (FEA) but it's quad core processor just wasn't up to the task. So... when ever I have a beastly FEA problem to run, I wait to run it till I get home, and then put the beast to work. Most 4 or 5 hour problems for my laptop almost never takes more than 3 or 4 minutes for the beast to crunch... so nice.

I will probably retire this thing in the next year though.... probably go with a threadripper rig or something because this beast is THIRSTY. No joke... this thing costs me almost a dollar an hour on my power bill to run at full chat. I feel like a modern rig could do much better.

 

Well whatever you get, you will be able to run flight sim because beamng has higher requirements the flight sim.

I'll say that the 9900K is out of date unless you're buying used, now it's the 3900X/3900XT vs the 10900K unless you want basically a 9900K which you'll then be buying a 10700K. If I would suggest one I would suggest the 3900X as it's normally somewhere lower than 450$, around 420$.
