    I agree that the ETK nomeclature is odd and confusing. It wouldn't take much to fix though.
    All you have to do is make the t in the 800 series mean turbo and take away the i in the I series trims. I had some other thoughts too-

    For modern bodystyles (mainstream)-
    840= 800 sedan
    850= 800 wagon
    860= 800 crossover coupe
    960= 800 crossover

    For modern trims (mainstream and flagship)-
    854t= 4 cylender turbocharged
    854tx= 4 cylender turbocharged AWD
    855d= 5 cylender deisel
    855td= 5 cylender turbodeisel
    856= 6 cylender
    856c= 6 cylender comfort
    856x= 6 cylender AWD
    856tc= 6 cylender turbocharged comfort
    856tx= 6 cylender turbocharged AWD
    856 ttsport= 6 cylender twin-turbo sport
    and so on

    For old bodystyles (mainstream and flagship)-
    cs= hardtop sport coupe
    cc= convertible
    sc= 2 door sedan
    ss= 4 door sedan
    sw= 5 door wagon/hatch
    (the bodystyle badges would be right behind the front fenders)

    For old trims (mainstream)-
    820 ss= 2 liter
    820x ss= 2 liter AWD
    828 ss= 2.8 liter
    828x ss= 2.8 liter AWD
    828 iisport ss= 2.8 liter fuel injected sport

    for old trims (flagship)
    K1900 cs= 1.9 liter
    K1900x cs= 1.9 liter AWD
    K2700 iisport cs= 2.7 liter fuel injected sport

    For modern bodystyles (flagship)-
    Ic= I coupe
    Is= I convertible
    I= I sedan

    2020 lineup-
    440= A class sedan
    450= A class hatch
    460e= GLA coupe electric
    560= GLA
    620= C class coupe
    640= C class sedan
    660= GLC coupe
    760= GLC
    840= E class sedan
    850= E class wagon
    860= GLE coupe
    960= GLE
    Kc= SLC coupe
    Ks= SLC
    I= S class sedan
    X= GLS with G class offroad capability

    the T in the 800 likely means "touring" referring to the fact that it's a wagon. so if there was a V8 sedan version of the 800, it would likely be called an 848. (unless 5 refers to seats rather than doors, in which case it would be an 858)
    also, as far as the K series goes, the K likely stands for Kabriolet, and c stands for coupe, meaning the K-series is meant to be a convertible in normal trims and have hardtop variants, but since the devs haven't figured out the jbeam/sound mechanics for convertibles, they just have the hardtop variants.

    I don't really pay attention to the 800 as much due to the lack of "customizable" configs or parts, but wasn't a shooting-brake one of the configs? I am not sure.

    For the whole naming convention debate, couldn't the problem just be solved by renaming the 2400 to "2400i" and the 2400i to something like "2400ic"? It seems like the entire issue hinges on the name "2400" with it being the only model without an "i", so why not eliminate that model name entirely?

    What does the "i" stand for? Who knows? But that seems like the most time-effective way to solve this issue.

    But, there is a 856 without the t, which may mean the t indeed stands for turbocharged as the 856 with no "t" is indeed using a NA motor

    other than the TTsports, they all have a "t"
    though it should also be mentioned that with the K-Series, turbo and N/A 6cyls are available as non-ttSport variants, meaning with it, the "t" does stand for turbocharged.
