Honestly, get a commuter first. Project cars always demand money,and for young people,it's hard to do without financial aid. It's not worth buying a Pos and then restoring it.
I know its not a jdm car but you could buy a honda 1999 through 2001 honda prelude for 11k dollars with 0 upgrades and 41k miles which is a good deal imo.
