The original plan was "Like SLRR but with more racing disciplines" Looking at A Rocky Start, that was still the plan as of a few years ago
for career mod i just hope there is a taxi mode, that way i could find out what all those cab drivers were raving on about those B body chevs (if mods are allowed/used in that mode, aka the oldsfullsize mod) and experience the feeling that i might be on some icon 80's movie and do some questionably acted out stunts with some poor chap in the back. Talladega Nights taxi style baby !
IMO it's going to be very hard for the team to create a career mode that will make everyone happy. This game has limitless possibilities and allows so much freedom that it will be impossible to tick off every situation the players create for themselves. Aside from a quick half an hour session to check out new mods every once and while I don't play this game much. I can't see that changing until career mode adds some purpose to all the amazing systems this game has. From my impressions of the average age of Beam players (and the fact the average car lasts 2 minutes) I doubt it will go this way but I hope it is very unforgiving to crashing, just like real life. My dream is something like this - Complete some kind of driving test to get your license. Have beater Covet, hardly enough money for fuel. Start job as a courier/pizza delivery. Options to get a promotion on courier services to where you get a company van provided. Save money to tune covet/buy new car. Become taxi driver as mentioned above. Highway maintenance Safari/tour driver Advanced driver course for more advanced jobs. Ambulance/police driver HGV/Truck license Recovery services jobs to tow broken vehicles. Long haul(ish) delivery in trucks Bus driver Then use the money for leisure activities like track days, drag racing. Street racing Potentially get to the point of pro race/drag driver. This could all be done in either quite a shallow way - think old GTA - drive to a place, complete activity, drive away again. If you crash you get "mission failed" but can walk away with no debt. Or in a more detailed and realistic way that requires more time & patience and has greater consequences to causing damage. Having to pay out the insurance and not go broke with no money for fuel and further missions. I hope for something closer to the latter, but I know that may be too hardcore for a lot of the player base. However I do get the feeling that the devs are focused on a driving game, not a crashing one. And when they saw people only drive for 2 minutes before crashing they were very disappointed that the hardcore play style won't suit the community.
Personally I hope they use the campaigns to work around some of those issues. The game's scope is so big that putting everything into career mode would get confusing for casual players; there would just be too many gameplay mechanics to keep track of. I would prefer to see career mode be more of a story mode, and campaigns used to be a sort of mini career mode that focuses on things that won't fit, like alternate story lines and game modes. For example, I don't think a police game story would fit in a street race story, so perhaps have a police campaign instead of finding a way to cram it into the main career. This also has the benefit of future additions. It's easier to add an entirely new campaign than finding a way to add a new gamemode to a completed career story.
I totally agree with this but I think a game with such in depth physics deserves an in depth career mode. Splitting things up makes it more technically manageable but takes away some of the RPG elements that would make it more enjoyable for me. I don't want to be dropped in a Police car and be given missions, I want to have earned by place to get that car... I definitely have too high expectations (and have probably be playing too much Witcher 3 where I feel part of a story)
Different play difficulties would be ideal, so everyone can be happy. I personally like the hardcore I better not mess up my car because ill go broke, however I am sure not everyone will like that like you say. Over the 2400 hours I have on this game, I have learned to love the driving alone as much as the consequence of running out of skill. I learned when playing the multiplayer mod that driving in this game and actively trying not to crash is lots of fun, I knew that before but when you are actively competing for something with another player its more enjoyable, makes crashes more detrimental. So if implemented into career mode properly player will actively avoid crashing. But again, like you say, not sure how many people want that.
A game like BeamNG would be hell with some sort of permadeath mode, You completely screw up your steering in this game if you look at a rock in a weird way. Some people might like this though.
you guys do know games like these do have difficulty settings right, just so the game is playable at times.
my theory is that if career mode is ever finished it probably will be a lot like slrr. with money earned from street racing buy cars at dealerships, purchase parts online, apply them in garage, so on, so forth. difficulty/opposing cars will probably be mostly stock at beginning and heavily modded as you go on
Cool, so we will be getting official D and H-series facelifts. IIRC, the D-Series one was kinda leaked on the previous update and turned into a mod, but the H-Series one is a good surprise!
Facelifts are looking hot. Not sure how the D-Series is gonna handle yet another facelift in the config area. Hopefully it gets curvier but I can’t really tell from the images.
