I bought and installed BeamNG Drive earlier today and I can't get it to start. I go to the BeamNG folder and try to run BeamNG.drive.exe and it says "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". I don't know why, though, because other .exe files work fine for me. I tried reinstalling it a few times and no luck, and it's perfectly up to date. When I try to launch the file as an administrator, it says it can't find the file, and it's clearly there. -_- I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what, but I'd love for it to work haha. Thanks for any and all help! Edit: sorry! put this post in the wrong category
Did you actually reinstall, or did you run the updater? If you ran the updater, delete all the files and download again
Yeah, I deleted all the files and ran the set-up again. I tried disabling my firewall, that didn't work.
Built in Windows firewall, or a 3rd party antivirus? Do you get any other error messages? You might want to look at my thread here:http://www.beamng.com/threads/8885-How-to-fix-BeamNG-not-working-after-pre-race-update. that might not help though, but it might. - - - Updated - - - Oh, did you re download it, or just reinstall it? The file might be corrupt
I deleted the BeamNG folder and installed it again and it still didn't work. My anti-virus is McAfee, it came with my laptop when it came in last month. I only get those two error messages, one just running it and another while running it as administrator. I'll check out your thread, thanks for the help.
The tutorial is for Norton, bit I'm sure there pretty similar. If that doesn't help, try re downloading it from the website. We could have a miscommunication but as far as I know your saying you just reinstalled the already downloaded package. Glad to help, even though I'm probably not
McAfee is so bad that it should be considered a virus itself The built in windows 8 antivirus is genuinely better. It is also one of the known problematic softwares. Uninstall the game entirely. Disable (or preferably uninstall) McAfee, redownload the game from scratch and then install. Then afterwards if you want you can re-enable mcafee, although I'd prefer to go stock windows defender (which as of windows 8 has been combined with microsoft security essentials) or maybe Avast.
Yeah, McAfee's pretty bad lol. I disabled it, deleted BeamNG, and reinstalled the setup and installed it again, and even in another folder, and it still gives me the same error message. :/ - - - Updated - - - Yeah, McAfee's pretty bad lol.
