Improvements to the Night

    Hello there, making a suggestion that could benefit some and can overall upgrade the experience.

    As some of you might know, you can change the time of day in BeamNG, and you are not restricted to something like 8AM - 8PM. You can choose any hour you want.

    A while ago, there was a HDR implementation that also upgraded the lighting, but after all this time, it feels like the night as been kinda left out.

    I have tried a bunch of maps, and I can tell you that the realism of the night looks horrible compared to the realism of the day.

    So that's why I request improvements to the night, I'm going to post a picture that will show you how it looks like.

    I have noticed a couple of things, that are either related to the scene darkness or the night itself :

    - The reflections (like on a car window) can show the skybox from the day, and for me, completely breaks the immersion

    - Paint/Texture may vanish a bit too much if it is completely hidden from any light source

    -Shadows are a bit too dark, maybe because of the global illumination that is a bit too bright.



    You might notice a lot more things, but I hope the devs could put a bit of love for the night riders !

    Wow! Someone actually put a suggestion in the right category for once! Great job! Not only is it in the right category but it's actually a good one too!

    Ive been working years on my gfx mod Alternative Lighting (AL for short) and theres alot that can be done when it comes to night but another thing that is clear is that everyones opinion about any time of day is different. I for one thought nights should be brighter at one point while i now think they should be darker (mind you i can change this 100% in my mod). There can be skyboxes for nights and days but if you use dynamic reflections the skybox wont be shoiwn, as it is in your pic.
    Another thing i can mention is that i always increase the reflectivity of the colors of the vehicles (as long as they dont have a matte finish) cause that does wonders for the night look of the car (using dynamic reflections that is) and day look too btw.

    As mentioned before, everyones opinion is different, years of modding beamng graphics has definitely tought me that. Everyones opinion changes too, so does mine. I liked bright orange sunsets at one point but now i like the crisp cold evening look more, for one example :)

    The one thing i always do though is go look for a games screenshot or IRL pic that has the look im after (at any given time lol) and try to replicate it :)

    Night cube box should be darker definitely. By the way, moon's flare (aka light rays) should be completely off. Never in my life moon was blinded me. And overall brightness should be about 10, 10, 10 for full moon light.

    Solved by turning dynamic reflections on.
