FWIW, I have no issue joining certain modder patreon accounts. Heck, I already support at least two modders that way. I have also commissioned work before - that is, flat out paid for a mod to be made. An example is the stackable, floating palette mod. I paid two different people to make their take on it, then told them they could release the mod(s) on here after I had made a couple videos showcasing the mods. I wouldn't do that in every case, but for those I did.

I know from the few videos I did with HighDef where we made maps as part of a tutorial, it takes time and expertise to make a mod - and that was just a map. Modding vehicles is much more involved.

For me, as a patron, I feel I should get first looks at mods before the author posts them here, but I have no problem with them posting the mod here for free once it's ready. It may feel like I am paying for something others will get for free, but I see it as supporting the modder and getting a sneak peek at what's coming out from them.

NOW THAT, I can agree with. Commissioning a mod can be monetized, but how would you know that it won't get into the wrong hands and be given away or worse - profited from?

Otherwise it just seems odd that someone would whine about the long hours and sleepless nights spent making something and expecting pay for something that is barely material. :p

If I knew someone would do an exceptional, high-quality job, I'd commission them to make a 1958 Plymouth mod.

I think the majority of known 3D modelers on here can do a pretty good job that would fit your requirements me obviously being one of them

No offense but remember that a mod is not only the model but also the materials, textures, Jbeam and LUA, so just being a good modeler is not enough to make a good mod.

If I knew someone would do an exceptional, high-quality job, I'd commission them to make a 2006 Tahoe mod.

About Patreon. If you support modder with Patreon, you get little content for a large amount every month. In my opinion, it is better to pay up to $ 25 once for what you need, rather than pay 12€ every month, when you don't need everything from this content.

I really like/love the concept of paid BeamNG mods, because well, it's like going to a resturaunt, you get the food you want, and enjoy it, then you need to pay because the chef made it or something like that and I would pay for payed mods, but I, personally, need to take that money, and put towards other things in life, like, a new car, I have no vehicle, COVID made my job time go down, it's just a big mess talking about money.

That's just my opinion, everyone has there own POV of spending money

    Cheers!

Even though I would never pay for a mod, I'm totally fine with the idea of them. I remember when everyone p*ssed their pants when the maker of the Raven R50 (or whatever it was called) made a certain config paid for. As long as a mod isn't a stupid price, people will buy it.

the raves although held off features that should be standard in any other mod. like if the monstertruck was a gimmick addon noone would have complained but there was no rally and race version included unless you paid. something that is pretty much a given

Not only that but the paid version included configs that you could just make yourself from the parts that came with the mod (not sure if it's still a thing or if they were removed), and also overall the mod was mid quality and kinda looked like Automation model.

I've got a few worries with paid mods. Yes, the mod makes definitely deserve to be paid for their hard work. But there are a few problems with it. First of all, it would defeat the idea of the whole "pay once and never pay again" thing, where you pay for the game, and after that everything is free. I'd say this is one of the big pros with this game. Secondly, part of the modding community idea is that its easy to install, easy to get, and free. This is one of the main reasons mods are so popular with this game. You can install them by clicking just one button. Having to make an account and linking pay pal isn't very straightforward. Third of all, the community overall is one of the large points/pros for this game. Would making mods paid for draw less people in? Would that make the community smaller? Forth of all, as mentioned before, the main people who buy mods are kids and children. Forcing them to pay for them would decrease the number of younger people who buy mods. It would take away the videos too (yes the ones with meshslaps too) as mods that would usually be featured in them wouldn't be there, and those mods are one of the things that makes their viewing community want this game. So while modders deserve to be paid, maybe don't make it all cost money. Maybe for perks and special things only, like early release, addons for mods, etc.

Another concern I have now is, what if someone made a paid mod but with stolen assets? How would that be handled, would they be forced to give back the money to everyone who bought it, or give the money to the person who made the asset they stole?

Then it is up to the creator to prove that the assets have not been stolen before they list the mod on the forum.

No one's making you pay for mods, and theres tons of free mods.

It's really not hard at all, if I can get car guys to do it who have never touched a computer in their life, then gamers on here can do it

I've personally brought well over 1000 people into beam through a paid mod. A couple paid mods does not ruin a playerbase. This is something a couple people do, not everyone. New/inexperienced modders asking to be paid are just going to be disappointed. The majority of players aren't even on the forums to see discussions like this, I doubt those players would ever even know about paid mods. If anything it would just lead to more high quality mods.

I don't understand this one. Less people will pay for mods if they are a paid product? Again, Absolutely no one is forced to pay for a mod.

Someone else stealing is not on those who don't. I don't really think it's an issue anyways, most modders already make basically nothing, someone stealing wouldn't either
