Originally made for my work in progress BeamNG movie I have decided to start making it a full mod. Even when its finished it wont be perfect as of currently its 60% done. This is my first map mod so help would be great. I am not very sure how to support this mod after its released but I will try my best to do so as I intend on using this for a lot of things. Things I want to do. 1 add more decals to builds to make them look more destroyed 15% done. 2 I want to add static models of BeamNG vehicles that are destroyed ive seen it done before but im not sure how to do it 0% done. 3 make some new dirt trails and detours around destroyed locations so you can still go through the map 0% done. Just encase you were confused Packle-Kackle and YeetMan are both me its because my beam forum name is YeetMan. (yes I would change it if I could) No new photos just putting recent ones in so people dont have to scroll down to see them. (edit) also thank you carkiller and waboll for allowing me to use the car models.
A few days actually but thats because its early development there is a lot more I want to do with this map before I can consider it done.
Few tips, don't just spam bushes everywhere. Roads especially, they should not have that many bushes. Also, for roads, use cracks, potholes, bumps, and put obstacles like fallen trees and rocks. If you can, make fallen bridges, and destroyed buildings. But for sure, that's way too many bushes. It will hurt the gpu, be hard to drive through, and doesn't look very good. Bushes should only grow in cracks in the road, and shouldn't be very big. Normal grass should be better.
I second the recommendation to not overdo it with the bushes, and I also wonder with all of the added shrubbery, will performance be significantly impacted?
A lot of textures are removed in this version so it kinda evens eachother out but I wasnt planning on keeping this many bushes in the first place I just havent gotten to the stage of adding more dynamic looking terrain yet as im more focused on covering all the ground and modifying assets. --- Post updated --- At the moment I dont really know how to edit the models of bridges and buildings but I do have Blender and have basic knowledge of how to use it. So I would need help with that stuff. (Edit) I already made the roads bumpy but pot holes I really don't think I can do unless its actually really easy to do them and I just haven't figured it out yet.
Like it, but not sure about all the slanted buildings. I would think buildings would fall apart. There would be a lot of debris on the streets and probably some random old office stuff there too. Framework and partial interiors would be visible. I understand you might not have the skills to make something like that, and I don't mean to nitpick this, but could you either make a destroyed version or keep them upright? Then again, who am I to criticize you, I couldn't make a map if my life depended on it Other than that, I think this looks great and was an awesome idea! I've been waiting for a realistic, detailed apocalyptic map and I think I have found it! Keep up the good work, and thanks for putting your time and effort into something we can all use. --- Post updated --- Definitely keep the tower crane slanted though, it looks great, and it wouldn'the be as heavily kept up as the buildings.
I am planning on adding debri in the road but im saving that for after I finish modifying the forestation so that it isnt all just bushes. --- Post updated --- Some progress to the map that I've made so far.
I have some suggestions, or well some examples that I use to reference the stuff I make for my maps that you can use. They're pretty simple and I think they'll help you alot, that's if you're going for the certain theme. Here they are! https://www.artstation.com/artwork/L32NG5 https://www.artstation.com/artwork/8el3xm There are many more that you can search for, I mainly look under the tag "Last of us 2"
? --- Post updated --- That is helpful thanks Mr.Bot. --- Post updated --- This intersecting part was pretty bad and I wasnt entirely sure how to fix it to make it look normal so I decided to make it into a forest. Still working on it to improve it. Not really intended to allow you to drive through it mostly intended as something to look at and walk around in in walk mode. Also improved the race tracks surface to make it better to drive on and look better when driving on it. Another update coming soon. Plus working on getting Jungle rock vines into the map because that would improve it by a huge amount. Probably gonna get that last one done soon as ive already managed to get other jungle rock assets into the map. (edit) And I might be getting the destroyed vehicle models into the map.
Not sure if this is already planned, but you should try to add some custom rusty-apocalyptic-type objects around the map as static objects. Such as bins, vehicles, poles, water towers, barriers, fences, buildings etc. Im not sure the best place to get models like those, but would be cool for sure to see custom objects to make it more apocalyptic looking.
