Exactly like that! --- Post updated --- I’ll definitely try this, it’s exactly what I was looking for!
I don't think that DrowsySam's gyro is based on a 2nd engine but rather on the rotator method, not sure though. It's me who made the lua (and quite some jbeam code) for whoms't 's Twin Engine Covet. I made my first double engine mod in Oct 2019 (just checked) with its own throttle control and lua electrics.values for a separate instrument panel. So I would say yeah, sure is possible.
If, for example, I had a car that had 1 motor on each wheel, how does it change gear? I just thought about that.
But anyway in the game there's forward and reverse gears, like the esbr4 that have 1 forward gear and 1 reverse gear. We should change gears between the forward and reverse gear, so I think electric cars have gears (at least in the game)
I remember the raven car/wagon used to have a 6spd manual for electric.. unrealistic but man was it fun... I think its fixed now, but yeah, even newer electric do have at least 2 gears, rimac and the Porsche taycan for eg. They have 2 forward gears for better torque..
They are not "gears" but more like drive modes and it only works on electric motors for some reason and not on engines with real transmissions.
So, with electric motors in beamng, the “electricMotor” thing already has forwards and reverse already built in without needing a transmission. That’s cool.
