All That This Game Needs Is Planes And Boats, Officially. It Would Upgrade The Game From 'car physics simulator' to 'vehicle physics simulator'! If Boats & Planes Are Planned, Good Job Beamng Team. If Not, It Would Be Great To Have Official Planes & Boats Without The Need Of Using Mods! Just A Suggestion great Devs! No Pressure! The Content That You Guys Are Pumping Out Is Great!
They are capable-ish of a ship, but not of a plane, at least not a big one. Plane crashes in this game aren't very realistic.

FAQ and Q&A are different things, the FAQ is outdated as heck. And they won't make official planes and boats because they would crash badly, as the game engine isn't made for shredding simulation and shredding is what happens 99% of the time with plane and boat crashes.
While nothing prevents you from making boats planes, helicopters and even more extreme things, we chose to focus on land vehicles for the time being.
